rtx 3090 vs rx 6800 xt

should I spend 118 usd more and get the rtx 3090?

for 1440p gaming

New or used? I'm asking because 3090s are a risky buy use reason being they have memory chips on the back of the PCB and some models aren't well cooled and if they've been mined on they tend to die quite quickly. If new 3090 if used still 3090 BUT depends on the 3090. I'd research which are the ones with best PCBs and coolers and buy one of those.

Ada is worse than Ampere which is worse than Fermi, change my mind.

How much is the 6950XT for you?  It's only $70 more than a 6800XT in the US, so $599.  Beats both your choices.

slightly used for 3d rendering the model is RTX PALIT 3090 24GB

Tbh I'm not sure I'd trust the seller's description of how much it's been used unless you personally know the seller.

 

If the 6800XT is brand new, I'd pick that.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

If it truly is slightly used I'd go with the 3090. 3D rendering applications work much better with Nvidia for now.

I wouldn't since you're probably getting into the territory of an RX 7900 XT which can get as low as $750 USD now a days. As others have mentioned, the RTX 3090 is kind of bad in the long term because of the doubled up VRAM that is known for thermal issues, that even inspired EKWB to design an active waterblock for the back of the card.
