Haswell or Ivy bridge? And z77 or z87?

So what do you think it's better? I'd like to here your opinion! :)

My advice is to wait for Haswell reviews. Then you can make more accurate decision.

If you can wait, check out reviews of Haswell when it launches.

I agree, Haswell is not to far away, I would wait.

I'm just hoping that Intel does not reuse that crap TIM they used on Ivy Bridge.

I'm praying that, they solder the heatsink to the die

Sorry for that. As always, we will see 5-10 % improvement over last generation...15% on certain benchmarks.(In real life is basically the same performance, but better efficiency(performance/watt). You can pull the trigger and buy Ivy right now, prices are lowest and, as I heard, next gen skylake cpu-s could NOT be compatible with LGA 1150 if you plan to upgrade.

Yeah. Basically this. Soldering provides much better thermal conductivity.

To be truthful there is no way to know is haswell is any good until it is release. There is going to a few things we no haswell will do better that is lower power consumption and better onboard graphics.

I would wait for reviews like the people above said. Because right now you don't really know how good Haswell overclocks and their performance in applications and games. They are releasing it next month so I would wait for the reviews.

First, you should ask yourself, how badly do you NEED this rig? I mean, Haswell is like one month away, and it is really worth the wait because I'm pretty sure it will perform better than ivy bridge, so as long as your current rig is still capable enough then you should wait for Haswell.
The other thing that you should think about is, how much will you spend on the rig? When the "new" stuff comes into the market, most of the time there is gonna be a price drop for the "old" stuff. So, if you are on a tight budget then try to find some pretty sweet deals on the ivy bridge later when Haswell comes out.

It all depends on your requirements. If you want a CPU with a much lower TDP wait for Haswell. Plus Haswell will likely perform only 5 - 10 % better but it'll most likely be a better overclocker then IB but I'll wait for reviews to come out before jumping to conclusions. If you want performance now go for a nice Gigabyte or MSI board and get yourself a 3570K. It'll last you another 2 -3 years depending how badly you want to upgrade.

Haswell by itself wont be that much better(only 10-15%) but the major question is- HOW WELL WILL IT OVERCLOCK :P Only time will tell...

One would expect Haswell to be better (5 to 10% CPU performance improvement clock for clock, 50% or more iGPU performance boost, lower idle power draw). If you have Ivy or Sandy Bridge and are happy, stick with it. Otherwise hold tight for reviews. Everyone should have more definitive opinion in less than a month.

Since they apparantly have the same shite thermal paste I'd say they are pretty equal as a result (±10%), I can't be bothered with high temperatures so I'm sticking with Sandy Bridge.

Doesn't matter, had sex.....What? =)) Either way, sandy rocks, try to fetch a 2500k/2600k, it's sooo worth it.

That's the plan but at the moment the Core i7-2600K is the same price as the 3770K and I can't in good conscience go for Sandy Bridge but I'm hoping with Haswell it'll knock the 2600K's price down quite alot, also I have a Z68 board and I can't be bothered to flash the BIOS for Ivy Bridge.

I came across a guy who had the Core i7-2700K and running at a stable overclock of 5.2GHz (can't remember the voltage) with a Corsair closed loop (I think it was a H100), stability tests it didn't get much above 85 degrees and under load gaming doesn't go much above 55-60, in my opinion that is pretty impressive and I've not seen an Ivy Bridge do that without going into meltdown at the same clock.

I think the haswell CPUs will have a better Integrated GPU and will be better with HD 4600 graphics. This is what I think.
