Hi guys first time poster here so please tell me if this is the wrong section to ask this.

I am upgrading my gpu from a 1650 to a 2070. My current psu is a 550w one. Would this be a fine to run a rtx 2070 with an i7 9700k?

If not, I might consider undervolting the gpu untill i can afford a newer one. Can this cause problems, how much should i undervolt by and what kind of performance hit would I experience.

Thanks in advance

Honestly, I think it's fine, google says the minimum is 550 W

Main rig specs:
i5-9600KF

32 GB Corsair Vengeance 3600 MHz

Crucial P3 Plus 2TB NVMe

MSI RTX 3060 Ti (GDDR6X Ver.)

MSI Z390-A PRO

I was thinking the same but some of my friends were telling me to upgrade to at least a 650 W. I probably will eventually but I wanted to know if I could even put it in rn and use it

Its a corsair 80+ bronze, aside from that I don't really know. It was prebuilt so I'm not really knowledgeable about it

It's fine to use. No need to upgrade if you already have it.

^^^

no point wasting money on an uneccesary "upgrade" that you wont be able to notice with your current gpu

save up and buy youself an 850w or a used 1000/1200w unit to properly futureproof the psu

Still could be bad for the system. What's the exact model of the PSU? Take the side panel of the case and take a look at the model sticker on the PSU or post a picture of the PSU.

It is good that you went out to ask about it. There are a lot of opinions and facts out there, and of course personal use cases that may differ from what other people do.

Off topic -Just a small thing I noticed last week that reminds to keep looking at info being online.

When I built my system nine months ago, I did some research on power supplies. And with choosing the RX 6600 it looked like I needed a 550W PS.

What was suggested/listed was;  500W on the box itself, 550W/650W minimum/recommend on the manufacturer's website. And 650W on the retailer's website from where I bought it.(they are playing it safe, the customer probably will go to them if there is an issue.)

And to the present(nine months later), that retailer now suggests a 750W in the product page for the exact video card.

(are they looking out for you? or just to sell you something that costs more?  - you can't blame them I guess because it is "popular" for people to have RGB christmas trees, loads of devices, etc. Over provisioning is better than being under or close to what you need.)
