Ryzen 5 5500

Go to solution Solved by aisle9,

The 4500 is $78 right now. The 5500 is a better CPU, but not by that much imo. If this is a "forever CPU" situation, then yeah, the 5500 is an ok idea if you're budget constrained and can't do a 5600/5600X. If it's a holdover until you can afford a 5700X or something, get the 4500 instead.

Saw the Ryzen 5 5500 on sale for $95, would this be a solid pick up?

How much cheaper than the 5600/5600X is it? It's not a terrible CPU and does have its place, but it's quite a bit slower than the 5600 because of it's significantly reduced cache, so if it's only an extra ~$20 to go 5600, get the 5600. Assuming you're in the US where the price difference is about $40, yeah going for the 5500 and getting a better GPU is probably the way to go, but just be aware that the 5500 is not really worth more than $100 and only makes sense in the most budget constrained of situations.

The Ryzen 5 5500 is similar in gaming performance to a Ryzen 5 3600. If you can get one or the other at a much cheaper price, pick the cheaper one. A used Ryzen 5 3600 can be a pretty compelling offer.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Thanks for the feedback, this should be fine for a budget light gaming build for my brother. He mainly plays WoW.
