Unexpected Windows 10 activation

Happened months ago but I didn't really care at the time.  Still, kind of curious.

 

I bought a used motherboard (retail Gigabyte, not OEM!), built the machine, installed Windows 10 Pro from installation media, but then it just automatically activated with a digital license when it went online.

 

Did Microsoft match it to an activation of the previous owner of the motherboard?

 

I don't mind, saved me the trouble of generating one through the upgrade process.

OEM licenses still should since you no longer get the license key to key in anymore.

Not complaining at all.  Then again, I generate them for free myself through inplace upgrade process, no biggie for me, but saved me a little bit of time.

 

Microsoft is begging me to upgrade to 11.  I wonder if digital license activation works with GhostSpectre images.  Should, but I haven't tried though.
