Budget (including currency): $2,000 USD

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: This will mostly be used for games as well as running mathematical models. I would describe my gaming habits as Bethesda centered, so heavily modded Skyrim, Fallout and Starfield (eventually).

Other details: I want a rig that will be able to run most games at 1440p above 60fps well into the future. My current part list is:

Component   Selection Price
CPU     AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor $439.00 Buy
CPU Cooler     be quiet! Pure Rock 2 Black CPU Cooler $44.90 Buy
Motherboard     Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard $189.99 Buy
Memory     G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory $104.99 Buy
Storage     Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive $114.99 Buy
Video Card     XFX Speedster MERC 310 Black Edition Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB Video Card $799.99 Buy
Case     Lian Li LANCOOL 205M MESH MicroATX Mini Tower Case $79.98 Buy
Power Supply     Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $149.99 Buy
Total:

$1923.83

I've been debating whether I should go with the 7900xt or switch it for a 6950xt and save a bit of cash at the expense of longevity. On the other hand, I feel the 7800X3D might be going overboard (also slightly concerned about the cooler), but I'm hoping it'll get a proce cut or two between now and November, which is when I plan on buying everything. In the end, I want this to be a PC that lasts a while (I typically use my PCs for 7-8 years).

Would appreciate any thoughts or criticisms, thanks!

Super good build!

I'd keep the 7900XT unless you really need the $200 difference

I'd still get a slightly beefier cooler like an AK620 or TR PE120 just for less noise

looks like a solid build, if your looking to save a bit then you could probably get away with fewer cpu cores in something like a 7600x as well as the last gen GPU.

For comparison I am running a 5700x and a rtx2080 at 1440 and am still getting over 100fps for most of my library. The one notable exception is KSP2 which only gets 20fps even at 1080p but it is still in alpha and is getting better with each update. Another thing to note is that I am running all of my games through proton in Linux, so if you plan on running windows then you will probably get better performance in most titles.
