I was going to use both a M.2 SSD and a HDD in my build. Are there better options? (although I can't really spend much more)

And replace the hdd or add the second M.2?. What should I do for the OS instead then?

For the price of the ssd + hdd you could get 2  slightly lower end ssds and you couldn't notice the difference

The mb is expensive

The psu is expensive

You can reuse up to a W7 licence for W11 or buy a cheap licence for 15usd

That's a lot of fans ! (I have P12s and P14 in my build too 🙂)

Replace the HDD by a second 2TB M2 indeed

Should I use M.2s or normal SSDs. The fans are cheaper in the bundles then getting a couple singular ones of the same.

I'd go M.2 NVMe, faster, convenient

(I know for the Arctic bundles)

For the nvme, I think you'd be better off with 1TB 980Pro. It has a DRAM cache and is super reliable. The change you can spend on upgrading Barracuda to WD Black. Another thing is the Windows license for more than 100$ home OEM?? You can get it for less than 5$ from allkeyshop.

There is approximately a 99% chance I edited my post

What psu brand would be better? I would like to have the 850 watt still. Are they still good quality at lower prices?

I'd go cheaper but I'm in no position to recommend any, you could check out the psu tier list here

Also you can install windows without a license and there's ways to activate it without one as well. Or you can get a Windows key for like $10 just gotta look for it.

I'd also argue that the GPU is a bit overkill for 1080p and the price.

CPU: Intel Core i9-10900K 3.7 GHz 10-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: ASUS ROG RYUO III 360 ARGB White Edition All-in-one AIO Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z490-E GAMING ATX LGA1200 Motherboard
Memory: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32 GB (4 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory Boosted to 4400MHz

Storage: 6 various HDDs and SSDs
Video Card: ASUS ROG Strix 3090
Case: Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL
Power Supply: Asus ROG Thor 1000w
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G9 OLED 49"
Keyboard: Logitech G915
Mouse: Logitech G502 LIGHTSPEED
Headphones: Sennheiser RS 175

Mic: Blue Yeti

How do you do that with windows?

And what GPU would you suggest?

Yeah, didn't realize you were in Australia. But you can pick up a 7600 for about $100 cheaper. It only has 8GB of VRam but at 1080p you really don't need more than that. very few games will be able to fill that up even at max settings.  As for activating windows... that's more of a quick google search for ya. It's just 3 command prompt commands.

Yeah ok.

Would my original build actually work though, both with storage and otherwise?

I'd never go AM4 with such a complete build

And I'd go Micro (or Mini) but that's me.

Of course, it's the newer platform. It will probably be around for a few generations.

It won't be much more expensive for a new build.

(And Intel is no slouch either, I just went Intel but that's because I could reuse my DDR4 and cooler)

Is AM4 still a good option, because it still seems to be fairly expensive in Australia comparatively?

Sure, I considered AM4 too, it's cheap. But it'd be a shame 🙁. You could lower your expectations a little, for now.

Buy a 7600 or 7700 now and a 7800x3d next year.

(I went Intel because price was similar and could have an igpu while avoiding the downsides of "G" cpus)

Realistically, could I get better performance currently for the money with AM4, then in a few years (however long) sell my AM4 stuff and build an AM5 when the price has come down more?

Basically how long will AM4 stuff still be applicable?
