Planning First PC

Go to solution Solved by Why_Me,

The 4000D is a rip off for the price.  Here's a better case that comes with 2x160mm front intake fans + 1x140mm exhaust fan. Big fans = quiet.  Try this.

Hi there, I have been dreaming about building a gaming PC for a long time and am finally going to have a sizable amount of cash to be able to do so. I am, however, not very in-the-know when it comes to parts hence my arrival here. I have a system built out but I need to know a little more about things like; What additional parts will I need to make it work? Am I going to run into problems with things like power spiking causing my PSU to shut down? Are there parts that are just straight better to be using? and ultimately is this plausibly going to meet my needs and goal.

I am looking to build a PC that I can use to play games at a relatively high fidelity with solid performance 1440p and over 100 fps would be lovely but I'm okay with less FPS. I also want to be able to use the PC comfortably with work as I am currently in school for Software Engineering and may end up using it for work down the line. The main factor, however, is that if I'm spending this much money, I want this PC to be able to last me around 4-5 years without having to worry about replacing or upgrading parts besides adding more memory.

Budget (including currency): $3100 (ish) $CAD It can go over if I'm getting better performance or longevity, but I don't want to go crazy here.

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: I will be playing a lot of single player RPGs, likely open world as it seems that that is now the most common in the industry as well as a small amount of streaming. I don't currently foresee doing any major video editing but there may be the occasional video upload. Either than that, possibly using it for work.

Other details: Current Build:

CPU: Intel Core i7-13700K 3.4 GHz 16-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15 chromax.black 82.52 CFM CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 Memory
Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive  +  Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 3.5" 5400 RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB Video Card
Case: Corsair: 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM850e (2023) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Case Fan: 4x Noctua Ax25 chromax 60.09 CFM 120 mm Fan
I will also be needing a keyboard but have an old Logitech G602 mouse that has served me faithfully for 9+ years and has no problems so I'm going to keep with it.

I have 2 24 inch 1440p 144hz monitors that I would like to make sure I am taking full advantage of.

If it matters I will be running Windows 10 PRO and then 11 PRO on it as I need it for school

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/FJp2tn

I have done a decent amount of research into all of the parts so I know at least a little about what I have selected. I would also like to avoid water cooling if possible as I am going for more longevity and with more parts there are just more places for a fault to happen (and I'm new and more likely to make a mistake). I am also aware that both the 13700K processor and 7900 XTX do run warm hence the money that is being spent on high grade fans.

Please let me know if you have any parts that you think would be a better recommend then what I have listed.

I'm new, so please don't bully me too harshly lol

Personally, I think that AMD gpu's and Amd CPU's pair up more nicely with each other, and I'm guessing that the 13th gen motherboard isn't goign to last much longer or even have support after the 14th gen. Intel generally has a record of not having great motherboard support for their CPU's and I personnaly would go with a 6th gen AMD CPU with an x670 motherboard that only costs 20 dollars more then your current one. AMD has also confirmed that minimum the x670 will be supported until 2025.

Made it cheaper while keeping almost the same performance across the board.

13700K would only benefit you on productivity workload, 13600K is the way to go for gaming focused build.

AK620 looks way better, performs almost the same, and almost as quite as NHD15 while being cheaper. Not to mention that NH D15 will soon be replaced by the 2nd gen NH D15.

Motherboard could be cheaper, but if you need a certain feature from it, why not.

P5 Plus would treat you just as well as 980 Pro would, while being cheaper as well.

P12 fans are good and cheap, Noctua's just run quieter at max speed but does not necessarily perform better cooling. Case fans won't run at max speed because it makes almost no difference to cooling performance when compared to 70%ish speed.

You want better cooling overall? Get a higher airflow case instead of $180 worth of fans.
