AMD hates this… but I LOVE it! - Noctua Booth @Computex 2023

James

In this video we visit Noctua's booth at Computex 2023 where they're showing off some really cool pieces of plastic that can knock double-digits off of your CPU temps! PLUS a new version of the NH-D15!

Wht would AMD hate it ? Direct die cooling is a thing since a long time with Intel chips

When that noctua representative said 20 degrees Celsius I was flabbergasted. Then Linus's daily terrible segue brought me back down to earth

Message me on discord (bread8669) for more help

Idk if I'd risk delidding a 7950x3D for lower temperatures, its not like I can overclock it farther because of that. Best case, I'm sitting a 5250MHz all core or getting constant 5250MHz/5900MHz boosting.

I wouldn't mind doing lapping as long as the cooler could compensate or having an offset heatsink. Lap that IHS down like 3mm lol.

What's the benefit of lapping when direct die cooling wouldn't be helpful? You'd void your warranty anyway, but with less opportunity for gains.

3D v-cache sensitivity, talking specifically about a 7950x3D here.

You're not wrong about the risk-reward argument, but lapping is far less likely to kill your CPU than delidding, especially with a dual CCD 3D v-cache CPU and with all the small components around the IHS. Smaller gains are still gains.

According to Gamers Nexus showcase it should be available this year, possibly Fall or Winter.
