Use mobile data while on WiFi

I am glamping and have run out of hotspot data so I figured I could cast my phone to the Chromecast and use mobile data to watch my shows on the apps.  But when I connect to the wifi I have the phone kills the cell data so I can't do it. 

 

Pixel 6 pro latest software.  I tried the developer options always use mobile data but that did nothing. I tried static IP method but I couldn't leave the gateway blank so it wouldn't work either. 

 

Also my router has no internet it's just there to be a wifi network to share for devices.  I've tried on a couple different Asus routers I have but no dice, the phone kills the cell data once I connect.

oh...  uhhh, I don't think most phones let you do that.

Even if your phone let you do that, the way Chromecast works is it tells the actual Chromecast what to stream, there is no datastream between the phone and the Chromecast. Your phone is a glorified TV remote. If one device has networking in this chain, it needs to be the Chromecast, but unless hooking the Chromecast up to your phone's mobile Hotspot lets you control it (in my experience it doesn't, but I've also not tried it in 5+ years) you're screwed.

Today I learned. Interesting! 

 

I thought there was a way to screen mirror to Chromecast from a mobile device / Chrome. Surely this involves a direct datastream between devices...

OK, that does stream data directly to the Chromecast, but for doing Netflix or something like that, nothing goes to the phone.
