I'm doing a very budget build...

Budget (including currency): Under $500

Country: United States

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Minecraft, Web Browsing

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

I'm doing a very budget build for almost entirely web browser, video watching, and probably some Minecraft at 1080p. Would this setup be decent for this? Are there any spots you would upgrade or change?

I do already have some case fans that I can use.

its decent but I would change a few things

its a bit over but has an 8 core cpu and better igpu as well as a case with 4 fans, a 750w psu and a very good mobo for the price

Personally, I would just buy a used gpu that's around $100-150, rather than using an APU. Or a new 6600 gpu for just a little over $500 total.

Id go used. Optiplex 7040 and 7050 (Skylake or Kaby Lake i7) can be routinely had for around $100-150 with 32GB of RAM and an SSD inside, and from there you can shop for a lot of 8 pin GPU that can fit in its 240W budget, in which id recommend used RX 6600XT, RTX 2060, and GTX 1660Ti.

no need to run Minecraft on 500 fps, much better is just to have a CPU that can load chunks fast so the game doesn't stutter

Just buy a used Z420 with an e5 1650 v2, even comes with 32gb of ram

add a ~40$ 1tb sata ssd and gpu wise you can just buy a 6700xt for 250$ used though make sure you can return if faulty

Btw the cpu is overclockable via throttlestop, maybe you can get it to 4.2ghz allcore or something like that on stock voltage

Except that Java minecraft is very single core heavy even with Fabric optimizers? the G series chips are still under Zen 2 or worse, and thus Kaby Lake IPC is better.

If you are playing exclusively minecraft and nothing else

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Z8Jbqm

Case wise whatever 5-10$ used office case you can find and take off sidepanel so temps arent shit

Psu wise look around for a used one, ebay has pretty bad pricing on used psus so prefer local classifieds sites like fb marketplace, should be able to find some decent 600w units around the 30$ range

Mobo wise you may consider buying a used 50-60$ b3/450 to save some $, boards like the pro4, gaming plus, etc.

Gpu wise look for used 570/580 8gb, may be able tto find cheaper ones on fb marketplace

ram config is far from ideal and you are definitely missing out on a decent chunk of performance with such slow rams so i suggest looking for some hynix hma41gu6afr8n, 2133 bin but will do 4000+ with ease

As for tuning

Cpu wise just set 1.4v vcore with no llc and set multiplier to 47/48 on all cores depending on how good the cpu is

Rams wise do a lazy 4400 overclock with 20-28-28-56 1.5-1.6v vdimm, vsoc 1.25-1.3v, everything else mobo auto set

The thing is, that's how it usually starts. Then you will play other games that's become available to you. Plus, he said his budget was $500. His original build was almost $400 while still being an APU. I was able to provide same or almost the same cpu performance at $320 and then a used rx 470/480/570/580 4gb or 8gb for $80. Which is a lot better than an APU alone for roughly the same price.

~2017 CPU better than ~2019?

reasonable, another route is to just have solid Ryzen G build, and then, you can buy the GPU later, because it is the easiest thing to upgrade unless you need a stronger PSU for it

A neck bit. Remember that by this point AMD is still lagging on games due to both DX12 still ass multicore support in games, and that lower IPC considering that it also cant clock as high as Intel on stock.

Personally, I think that's a bad investment. Currently the best desktop APU is 5700g. That build is minimum of $400. The one I provided is a ryzen 4500, given that the 5700g has a better cpu, however at the same price, the one I provide already has a dedicated gpu like a 580 8gb. So regardless if the game is cpu or gpu intensive, at $400, there's no APU built that would beat a ryzen 4500+rx580 pairing(or similar priced gpu). Probably if a 6000G/7000G series comes out there's a chance that an APU is the best option. But not at the moment, since used gpu prices plummeted. As for the PSU, there's really no issue with even a 500-550w variants, when talking about gpu with less than 200w power draw and a cpu with 65w to 85w max power draw.
