Low or High Tier Steam Deck

Budget (including currency): CAD 500 - CAD 820

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Indie Games and the occasional AAA titles like Forza Horizon 5 or Deathloop.

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I'm just wandering if I should just get the lowest tier Steam Deck (the 64gb version) since I won't be playing high end games since I prefer to play those on a mouse and keyboard. I just want a handheld that I can use on my bed or on the couch. Or should I just save up my money to get the highest tier version (the 512gb Version) since it has the nvme drive and the anti-glare coating on it.

I would actually get the middle one that has an ssd, but not a huge one and its about 110 bucks (US) less than the top tier one

Since if you want to get the top tier one, and you just wanna play games at home, consider the ROG ally

But I would go for the 256 gig version with the nvme ssd

If your going to buy the steam deck, get the cheapest one and upgrade storage your self.

i'd say either the base model, or the top end one *because of the anti-glare display*.

depends on if you expect to need the anti-glare or not.

Can you upgrade the storage on the cheapest model? I see that its eMMC and I though that it meant that the storage is soldered on?

I like the anti-glare coating on most devices with a screen, but I don't really expect to need and if I did end up needing it wouldn't I be able to find a matte screen protector that would work?

I would recommend the middle one, because the lowest tier one seems pointless for AAA titles. 64GB of storage is nothing, and it'll easily fill up with the first or 2nd AAA game.

Then get a 512GB or 1TB micro sd card either right away or later on.

It is eMMC, but not soldered on to the motherboard.

It's a eMMC soldered in a m.2 chip.

it's just not priced well for the top tier anymore. the anti-glare does not worth that much. matt screen protector works great.

that price is too close to ROG Ally, and not perform nearly as good.

just get the lowest tier one and buy a micro sd card, loading is the same speed as the ssd for some reason
