AM4 AMD 5600 or AM5 AMD 7600

ummmm

Budget (including currency): >$400(cpu + motherboard + ram)

Country: usa

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 1440p 165hz medium to high(150-200fps on most games)

Other details:   I Dont have a PC. but i do have 1 ssd, 2 gpu, 1 PC case, 1 RGB fan, 1 4gb ram(which wont work because its old).

I dont know lot about computers. I wanted to ask which PC would be better to build and keep for long time. People are saying AM5 is expesive but its only like $385(AMD 7600($219) + Asrock B650($115) + 2 Team Elite 8gb DDR5 5200($55) and I can put any new cpu in there.

For AM4 its like $315(AMD 5600($137) + ASRock Phantom Gaming B550($125) + G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)($42)) but cant put new cpu in there. Am I missing something here? its only $70 more but AMD 7600 is also 25% faster then AMD 5600.

To be fair, the $115 motherboards have only really come in stock over the past couple weeks. I would still spend a little extra and get a 2x16GB kit of DDR5 instead, it's going to be faster and 16GB is getting pretty strained on a lot of modern systems, and by the time you have 32GB in both systems the AM5 system will be $100 more expensive than the AM4 rig.

I would still go AM5 if possible, it is faster enough to justify it and RAM prices have come down enough to be worth going DDR5, though there definitely are reasons to stick with AM4 if you need to.

Prices have come down a bit from launch. Boards have actually gotten to reasonable pricing, but for the first 6 months the cheapest board for AM5 was still around 250$ that was actually usable that didnt have major issues.

Overall if its 70$ more, overall its going to be worth it, since you will have a better options later on.

For most, AM5 WAS more expensive prior to the cheap motherboards coming out and DDR5 was $150+ for 2x16.  Without Microcenter or Newegg deals, AM5 was almost double an AM4 system for the CPU/Mobo/RAM.

Now though, you are seeing how much pricing has settled, much more economical to go AM5 now.

I'd go with the 7600 setup, but with 32GB RAM.  2x16 is handled better than 2x8 by the way DDR5 works.

It comes down to your overall budget seeing how a big chunk of your cost is going to be the gpu.  If you have a big budget then AM5, if not than AM4 so you don't short yourself on your video card.

especially considering that OP's target is 1440p, +1. Or use the fact that Raptor Lake is the last modern platform to use DDR4 and abuse the savings on RAM kits. $35 for 2x8 3200 DDR4, $100-120 for a good board and $295 for a 13600KF and youre looking at around $430 for only a neck worse or similar performance in games.
