So right now I have to use the iGPU on my motherboard (a GeForce 7025 with 256MB of RAM allotted to it). My mom offered to buy me a GeForce 9800GT 512MB off of eBay for $26.99 USD. The most demanding game I currently play is probably Team Fortress 2, but if I ever am able to download Dead Space off of Origin, then that will be the most demanding.

 

Is it worth buying (remember what I have to use now)? Is it quiet(ish)?

If your power supply is ready for it, then yes. The 9800GT is a beast of a card. It will blow the 7025 out of the water. You should able to play any newish game on low to medium settings.

Yea it's a decent card in all honesty I ran games off one for like 4 years and it was giving me a nice experience in the games I played.

 

I upgraded from a 7300GS (which died, then spent 4 months on G31 integrated gpu so equally poopy.

lol why not get a 640. they are sooo cheap. You can mow someones lawn or something and get something more modern.  

It would block all of my SATA ports (this one might block two, but I don't care. I'll just buy some more). And they're not less than $30.

Good to hear. I like quiet. Which is why I ditched my Sempron cooler and "upgraded" to an FX cooler, even though the fan is a little noiser (lower RPMs, more airflow).
