GPU Question

Go to solution Solved by AlwaysFSX,

To be stupid:

290x is $9.64 a frame

780 is $10.86 a  frame.

Price/fps.

Asus_R9_290X_DirectCU_II_OC_review_Metro

So this has been bothering me for sometime now. I have sli GTX 480 and i decide to finally upgrade them but cant decide between 2 cards. i know there specs and know how good they are but i don't know the performance vs price on them. To me thats something that matters though there are better options out there if i go that way but i want a 1 card solution. So here are the cards.

ASUS R9290X-DC2OC-4GD5 - http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9290XDC2OC4GD5/

Cost: $539.39

or

ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5 - http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/GTX780DC2OC3GD5/

Cost: 488.79

Any suggestions would be helpful or comparisons. i have looked up the cards hundreds of times in Google but cant seem to find my answer. i see a lot of what is better here and there but not performance vs price. If you want to know what i do with the cards, i play games, Photoshop, and other sorts of things. If you have any other questions let me know.

@joma90

Google benchmarks to find out the performance, Linus's reviews are good to find out the in game performance of the cards.

The R9 290X will be louder and hotter and the price premium compared to the 780 doesn't reflect the performance.

I would go for the 780 and probable the reference design myself, it looks better :P

What are you smoking? The r9 290x is faster than the 780...

I know about the benchmarks... but trying to find benchmarks with these 2 cards on the same system setup is what i cant find. The questions is of it is worth the extra $50 to get the R9 290x or not. I will end up overclocking them if i can, so that is something else to add.

Not always... The couple of FPS still doesn't reflect the extra cost.

Couple of fps? 10-15FPS is a "couple" for you?
