HDR standards help

so i have the dell OD-OLED and it can do HDR 400 true black or HDR peak 1000 and i have no idea which i should really be using? as far as i can tell the 1000peak is brighter but not by much and 400 true black gives better colours/contrast but i find it really hard to tell the difference between them if at all so dose it even matter which setting i put it on?

Which do you have? The DW or DWF? Have you watched any content on these displays that talk about the two modes? 

 

Tim talks about the two modes in the latest video but he's got much more coverage of them and individual reviews.

If it's the AW3423DW, then use the 1000 mode. They're both pretty accurate and the 1000 mode gives more brightness for a better HDR representation.

 

If it's the AW3423DWF, then the 400 mode is a lot more accurate. The 1000 mode is overly bright and generally inaccurate in terms of brightness, but that might be fixed in future firmware updates.

Personally, I think 400 nits mode should be the mode of choice most of the time but it's really up to you.

 

1000 nits give you a brighter image (but not really 1000 nits in any meaningful windows), 400 nits is not as bright but offer much more stable ABL. And I would value that a bit more than the slight brightness increased.

 

But if ABL didn't bother you anyway then feel free to go 1000 nits
