Should I build my pc before my M.2 SSD arrives?

I would take the C drive and additional storage from my old PC, and install the m.2 ssd when it gets here ~Thursday.

My motherboard gets here later today so ill have everything but the M.2, do you think this is a good idea or should I wait for the M.2 Storage?

Note the M.2 will be my C drive but in the meantime the non m.2 SSD (current PC C drive) will be used as a C drive for the build...

Is there anything I need to do to make sure my current C drive works in my new PC?

In theory, it should be fine. If you just plonk in the old drive as-is, Windows might get mad at you and say you need to buy a new product key because too much of your hardware changed. You might also have some performance issues while using the old drive due to drivers still being present from the old system that are no longer in use - I'm talking 5-15% hit in some cases, but only maybe. The latter issue would be fixed once you install Windows on the new drive once it arrives. Windows activation would require getting a new product key if that ends up being a problem.

Moving the drive directly should be fine in general, if the boot drive is a GPT drive and booting is configured to UEFI, or if the boot drive is an MBR drive.

Although personally I would make a fresh install of the OS on a new drive.

And of course, you can always build in advance while you're waiting for the new drive to arrive.
