Zotac RTX 4090 Paper weight.

goodson1001

Hello.

I had an RTX 4090 from Zotac. Now it would seem I have a paper weight. It has worked well for about 1 month. Then, while loading Cyberpunk 2077, I noted that the menu frames went to 760 FPS. There was a squeak from the card and . . .

I could load into Windows. I was free to do any program that did not require 3d, but if I attempted to load even the simplest of games (Crazy Taxi), Windows Crashed.

I rolled back the driver for the card, no joy.

I defaulted my bios. I thought maybe there was an issue with the motherboard or cpu, no joy.

I got my old system out of the closet and put my EVGA (You will be missed) 3090 in and we are cooking with Crisco.

I put the 4090 in the old system. No joy. Same exact problem. The old system is running windows 10. Has a 9900K. So . . .

I cannot RMA this as I have purchased it through a second party. At the time there was little choice.

Any idea what may have poofed on it? Would LTT like to try to fix it? There was no smoke.

System:

OS Name    Microsoft Windows 11 Home
Version    10.0.22621 Build 22621
Processor    13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K, 3000 Mhz, 24 Core(s), 32 Logical Processor(s)

Video Card   Was a Zotac Gaming RTX4090 Trinity

Of note there was no smoke. I had no smell of burnt electronics from the card. This does not mean it has not had a component failure. It will load Windows, most of the time.

Anyone who might have a suggestion, I would love the help.

There might be a VBIOS issue, but this more sounds like some sort of silicon defect and the card is just a brick now. Still try to flash a new vBIOS, there should be instructions on how to do it as well as download links for them on Techpowerup, but it's definitely possible that the card is irrecoverable.

Once I dry my tears. I will try to flash the vbios. I had not done that and it makes sense. Thanks for the suggestion.

I flashed the vBIOS and it is the same.

Underclock the GPU memory and then the GPU core. IF there is any change with any of it and it works, GG - you bought another dying miner card. Also remove the cooler and inspect the PCB and the die. If there is any darkening around the memory modules or the die is cracked, you have a really expensive paperweight.

Believe it or not there are still plenty of people who think mining is profitable and try their luck on various currencies, old and new. And the 4090 is a perfect cart to mine on.Do you think all the people who bought 15-20 of those bought them to play games or to try an make profit on a $1600 GPU ?!

Who bought 15-20 4090's? This isn't 2020-2021.
