Linus mentioned briefly in the WAN show that firearms creators were asking about if floatplane would be a safe haven for their firearms content, but never gave an answer as to if it will be or discussed it. I think it would be a cool move but I feel like I could see them not being as friendly as the creators might hope. Any more info on that?

from what i recall of it, since floatplane offers no "discoverability" at all, potentially politically charged topics like guns dont really pose much of an issue *CONSIDERING* they keep within the law of the appropriate juristictions.

i assume the latter of which is the bigger sensitivity.

beyond that, there's also considerations about how fast creators (should) be onboarded onto floatplane, and which creators to give priority.

It's not the firearms content, it's more of the baggage that comes with it.

For some reason, it gets so overpoliticized that it's just not worth the hassle of even watching it.

There are very few people that I've seen keep that seperation.

I don't think it would be issue. As Linus has talked previously, they could allow even highly inflammatory political content if it was up to just them. Since platform is paid only, creators themselves are responsible of their content, of their subscribers and of their comment moderation. The issue would be if payment processors would take issue on what is being hosted.

The other factor would be promotion of illegal activities. So in terms of gun or weapon content, showing off or discussing about it is pretty much fine everywhere. The legal issues would then be around giving advice on circumventing legal restrictions posed in different countries and regions, promoting using weapons in situations which would be against the law in various countries and regions etc.

The fact that he doesn't give direct answer is actually good thing. He has been burned so many times already for giving half-thought answers on stream and having to backtrack them later after internal discussion. Do you really want another "Trust me bro" style reply on something like this? When he could talk with their legal council and get proper response out.

Floatplane already has Forgotten Weapons on it, so there's already precedence for firearm creators to onboard if they're accepted.
