Can you legally drive a tank on public roads in Missouri?

Go to solution Solved by 8tg,

Weight and tracks are the issue, and then registering it can be difficult to make it a legally drivable “truck”.

Most roads will have a weight limit the tank will exceed. There are plenty of ways around that though provided you adhere to posted weight limits.

You can get a vin and register one as a truck, plates and all. That will also depend on the state of the engine, emissions regulations in your area depending on the engine type, and many states have specific laws against registering ex military armored vehicles.

Almost all states however have this covered under a blanket of no full tracked vehicles due to the wear they impart on roads.

Youd need a demilitarized tank, depending on area with emissions equipment installed, after somehow getting it a vin, and then fight several other laws to do with presenting a deactivated weapon if it still has the gun visually intact.

So like it’s possible, I’m sure you could do it in some places. But generally tanks in civilian hands are more like show pieces permitted on occasion for parades or whatever.

Youd be more likely to pull this off with a wheeled, unarmed APC. Then your only hassles are registering it and again depending on locality, passing emissions.

Even humvees these days can be difficult to register because they don’t pass emissions and don’t have emissions hardware on them stock.

I want to know if you can drive a tank legally on the road in Missouri, and what states allow you to do so.

All off them, it's in the constitution "the right to bare arms" says nothing about size.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Not sure how accurate it is (no links to actual DMV/DOT sites), but that's a discussion about it.
