My SSD is "inside" my other SSD

Perrin

Basically my SSD is pathed inside my other SSD if that makes any sense. I know almost nothing about storage but i want to wipe my pc and have my two SSDs separate instead of one in the other like it currently is. How should I go about doing this? I put in a picture that hopefully shows what I mean

That just looks like a shortcut to your other drive. Can you take a screenshot of "This PC" for us? (Blackout any private information of course.)

You're looking to see if the drive shows up in "This PC" with a drive letter and name. If not, you might need to assign a drive letter manually.

Gotcha. Looks like the drive either hasn't been formatted before, or is missing a drive letter assignment.

You should be able to assign the drive a letter (or format it, if it's a new unformatted drive) from Disk Management.

Thought I'd just add (this should be self explanatory), obviously make sure your files are backed up on a USB stick, in the cloud, or both if you really want. Cause once that drive's formatted those files are gone forever. Even just reinstalling windows it's a good idea to do this even if it says it'll keep your files 🙂

Keep in mind that I am sometimes wrong, so please correct me if you believe this is the case!

I've been using these two drives for a couple years like this, something my dad set up when i bought the pc. It appears that my boot drive is drive C: and my other drive is also drive C: but like added to it. Will assigning my non-boot drive a different letter make it its own lettered drive?

I think the second ssd is just mounted as a folder ( yes, you can do that )

just check the Disk Management and ssd how it’s mounted.

you don't even have to format it if that the case. Just change the mounting to the letter.
