System:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3900x

MoBo: Gigabyte Auros B450M

PSU: Thermaltake Tough Power 750W 80+ Gold

GPU: XFX Merc 310 7900xtx

RAM: Corsair 3200

Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G7 32inch 1440p

OS: Windows 11

I recently upgraded the GPU in my system, nothing else changed. I'm seeing some fairly extreme underperformance compared to what I had grown used to. Even in Lite games like Valorant my fps drops from 220 to sub 60 when moving.

Oddly enough, the GPU utilization doesn't break 40% in that game.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the amd driver's, updated Windows to latest, and toggled any vsync or frame rate caps. No luck. Any suggestions here?

You should not have bought a 7900XTX and paired with a 3900x. New GPUS pretty much require the best CPUS to get the most out of them. Id say you could get away with a 5800x3D if you dont want a complete platform upgrade.

Other then that its gonna come down to whether or not the In game settings got changed. That usually happens on GPU changes. Other then that its gonna be figuring out what other power settings and such are in play

Otherwise Try DDU

CPU bottleneck is very possible, do you play in 1080p?

Used DDU?? If not, try using DDU.

yep. 7900xtx might be too strong for your ryzen 3 3900x? Do you mean ryzen 9 3900x?

My First PC
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x
Cooler: Asus TUF Gaming LC240
Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix B550-f gaming
RAM: 4x8 GB Corsair Vengeance RS (3200 MHz, CL16)
Storage: 1tb Samsung 980 Pro
Graphics Card: Asus Dual RTX 2060 OC
Case: Deepcool Matrexx 50
Power Supply: Corsair RM650x
Headset: Razer Blackshark V2
Keyboard: Corsair K70 Pro Mini (Speed Silver switches)
Mouse: Razer Viper Mini
Only changes I have made is I sold the 2060 for $235 AUD and bought a Powercolor Red Devil 6700 XT for $400 second hand (it was barely used, think I scored a deal on Ebay with that).
I'm learning video editing and trying to get some cash as a high school student.
I like F1, my favourite team is Scuderia Ferrari and favourite driver is Charles Leclerc. Favourite track is Red Bull Ring in Austria.
Playing with a 1080p 60hz monitor right now, hoping to upgrade to a 1440p 144hz one soon.

Living in AU and that pisses me off since every event is late at night or early in the morning (almost every F1 race starts around 11 PM AEST time)

Yes, sorry I fixed that. It is a Ryzen 9 3900x.

Looks like I'll need to update my whole platform. Could the PSU be the problem too? Or is 750 enough headroom?

Play in 1440p. Seems CPU bottleneck is the consensus here.

Mmm there may be a CPU bottleneck but this doesn't explain neither the horrible performance, as a 3900X is still a decent CPU (it's not like a r3 1200 or such..), and even less that you say you have LESS performance than on a 5700XT which is a way weaker card ...

Definitely worse performance than with the 5700xt. I'm also thinking PSU may be under powered here at 750W

PSU doesn't have an affect on GPU performance...the PSU is only going to provide however many watts the GPU will pull.

PSU can't be the issue, GPU would shut down if not powrered enough, not work at half speed as if it were an engine!

Worse performance than 5700xt is really weird, could be drivers or some PCie issue ??

What are your storage devices and have you monitored your temperatures for CPU and GPU ?  What driver version are you using for the GPU ? Have you updated BIOS lately or the chipset drivers?

EDIT:  Also you are running more than 1 stick of ram, yes?  Systems specs are a little vague in your initial post.
