Router situation

My new network providor is trying to sell me a router for 169€, that router can do 100mbit/s up and down, I belive that it's like 10 years old or smth (Technicolor DGA4330).

 

I'm not sure, but I have a feeling, that that's way too much for a router like that.

 

So if my gut feeling is correct, are there any good routers, that can do 100mbit/s up and down for like 50€?

The router is for a small apartment.

There are routers and then there are modems. If it takes in something that isn't Ethernet (fiber, POTS, OTA, etc) and converts it to Ethernet, that's a modem. They can be combined, but effectively they're still two separate devices in one.

 

As annoying as it is, if it's a modem (and it looks like it from what I can tell), there might not be a better option since ISPs like to tailor their HW.

honestly dont buy any router from a network provider just buy one from a reputable source yourself.

Ask them is you absolutely need it and if you can use your own.

Some ISPs require you to use their equipment for proper authorization on their network. Most of the time it's for fiber connections.

 

This device is not a simple router that you can replace with a Best Buy purchase.

It's has a DSL modem integrated, but if your ISP is fiber, I almost guarantee they'll have their own media converter and they're just using that as a router. Confirm with ISP, but you should be able to replace with any router you like.
