Should I spend more on a better cpu?

I plan on getting the i9-12900K but I was wondering would it be worth it to get one of the 13th series cause instead like maybe a i7 13k

The 13700k is basically an updated 12900k if you think of it. So unless the 12900k is dirt cheap and less than the 13700k, there's no point in getting it. It's just bragging rights for that i9 badge.

For what? Certainly not for gaming.

I haven't used case badges since Pentium 4. Maybe I'll put on the Core i7 one... but it's still sitting in the box so who knows if I'll ever follow through.

what i meant, with Intel i don't even look at the i5,7,9... just "12600k" is all i need to know (besides the actual specs obviously) the 900k/s are basically never worth it for gaming ... i really wanted the 10850k lol, 10c/20t, i think its still a good cpu tbh...

What's the pricing for the i9-12900k vs the i7-13700k in your region? Again, both chips are really similar but the 13700k does edge the i9 out with IPC. So if you want all right performance, then the i7-13700k is the one to choose of the two. But if you're also considering value, then you should also consider pricing if you can get the i9-12900k for less than that i7-13700k.

What board did you choose by the way? Any 13th gen equivalents?

If you havent bought it yet then get a different board. Its very expensive and doesnt do anything better than other z690 or z790 boards that are cheaper

as stated the 13700k is essentially a 12900k with better l2 cache, frequency, and price

there's no reason to get the 12900k unless its really cheap.
