Should i typically turn off Vsync in games when using this?

 

Reason im asking is it seems to work fine in some games but not sure about others, for example when i turn off Vsync in SOTTR i get unlimited framerates,  but no tearing,  in  SFV i obviously get 60 fps and no tearing (the game doesn't even have a Vsync setting)  but in Warzone 2 i can just set a framerate limit of say 120, turn Vsync off and, well, i do get some tearing,  but not too bad.

 

So what does Vertical Sync "fast" actually do?

Fast sync is for when your GPU is rendering frames multiple times faster than the refresh rate of your monitor. Instead of limiting the framerate like normal Vsync it allows the GPU to render as fast as possible and takes the most recent fully rendered frame to reduce latency. It does nothing until your framerate gets above the refresh rate of your monitor (i.e. with fast sync you will still get tearing if your gpu is rendering 90 fps and your monitor wants 144), and the latency benefit isn't that big until you reach framerates 2+ times faster than your monitor's refresh rate.

 

Yes you should turn off in-game Vsync if using fast sync. Standard Vsync limits the maximum framerate to the refresh rate of the monitor. Fast sync only works when it's higher than that.

And fast sync is a nice option to use with G-Sync/Freesync displays if you're not limiting the framerate to stay inside the adaptive sync range.

Hmm, yeah, basically it seems to "do something" when i limit the framerate... not sure because i also turned on ultra latency... most i noticed something with these settings is SOTTR and SFV, and maybe Warzone 2, but i haven't played that before so i cant compare... def felt "snappy" (and yes thats running 150-170fps, monitor is set to 120hz...)
