GPU underperforming and new drivers lagging PC

My GPU is behaving weirdly, the performance is much lower than it should be. When I reinstall drivers the performance goes back to normal, but drops shortly after. For example when I play Apex Legends, I get ~23 fps in areas with dense objects, while I should be getting ~60fps.
Also, I'm on driver version 472.12 because the drivers starting from 496.76 make my whole pc lag like crazy for some reason, this is also another problem I'm facing.
CPU: Xeon E3-1230 V3
GPU: GTX 960 from an ASUS prebuilt
PSU: 600w

Try using DDU to wipe out all traces of previous display drivers. Then you can try starting fresh.

That's about the performance of a 8100, and the 960 is well into end of life. It's possible the GPU is dying.
What are your temps like?

60-ish under 99% load

Unlikely, the performance is where it should be just after I reinstall drivers, but drops after a few hours. No game updates in between

The fact that newer drivers are causing issues is weird. You may want to look into a complete windows wipe as a last resort.

another option is dropping a fresh install on a different drive. I keep a 20$ sata SSD around for just this purpose

that would also work, as well as dual-booting another copy of windows onto the same drive.
