Uses for VERY old GPU?

Hello,

I have a box of what seem to be very old GPU's, is there any use for them? they are old enough that I do not believe they could run windows but I don't know much about them. Any uses, got them for free.

It really depends on what GPUs you have.
If they're on PCI-Express and not older than, say, 10 years, you could use them as emergency display outputs for testing purposes, or in old HTPCs, or maybe in some retrogaming machines.

If they're on AGP or even PCI, I don't see any other possible use case except for retrocomputing / retrogaming PCs - this means you'd have to pair them with suitable and compatible hardware from the same period.

well, THAT's old for sure!
It's a wonderful card for a DOS / Windows 98 retrogaming machine, one of the best of its time (2002 / 2003), but that's about it: I think it would struggle even in Windows XP...

yeah, I only kept it because it looks cool. I have around 12 cards this is the best of them, would it work better if i used 2 cards so that i can have more power?

No, GeForce 4 doesn't support multiple cards and it's AGP port. Every old motherboard have one AGP port.

NVIDIA SLI started with GeForce 6800 PCI Express

 

ATI/AMD Crossfire started with Radeon X800.

 

And very old, 3Dfx Voodoo 2 SLI support 2 cards in PCI 32-bit ports.

They do have a market among retro enthusiasts, you could easily sell at least some of them on eBay.

But it's GeForce 4 Ti 4200, it's not high end (Ti 4600/ Ti 4800)

 

And Radeon 9250, it's entry level, no worth.

This is a TV tuner card, believe it or not. It should support both analog and DVB-T signals but I guess it's pretty much useless in 2023.

The Winfast DTV2000 card above is a TV Tuner ... it was able to pick up DVB-T signals (digital) signals from air (if there's a transmitter near you, as in maybe up to 100 km or so from you)

I think it only supported mpeg-2, not sure it can do mpeg-4, and there's few tv stations transmitting over the air anymore, and if they do it's mpeg-4 

Pretty much everyone gets tv channels through cable these days, and you get set top box from ISP / cable provider for that.

 

Radeon 9250 cards are super cheap, you can get them for under 5$, they're not worth keeping them, they're not high performance and you can easily get better cards on AGP slot if you want to build a retro machine.

They both were indeed entry level cards and the Radeon wasn't worth it even back then, but at least the Ti 4200 is very highly regarded in retrocomputing forums like Vogons.
It seems to be well balanced and very usable for DX9 gaming under Win9x and it still sells for around 40€ in Europe, so it's definitely worth checking out!

I appear to also have an old internet card and audio card any use? also what motherboard does the 4200 use?

minimum 500 MHz but high is better.

 

Pentium III SLOT 1 exists between 450 and 800 MHz

 

Pentium III socket 370 exists up to 1.4 GHz (the best is 1.4 GHz Tualatin version)
