RX 5500XT - BSOD "memory management" when launching CPU-Z

Asus Rog Strix 5500XT 8GB causes BSOD-s when loading CPU-Z, after about 60 to 65% load.

Passes Unigine Heaven and stress benchmarks. It's not the CPU, RAM, Motherboard, SSD-s, OS.

The only thing I can't do is test it in another system. Not mine and I can't test it in any of my PC-s, it's a system at work and I can't take parts home.

Opened, nothing to see there, clean, not an OS issue. No crashes with a different GPU.

Ideas?

Does the GPU behave in everything else but CPU-Z?

I would use whocrashed to view the dumps and figure out what driver or part of the system failed. It would help identify the problem.

 

What to do is download whocrashed. Analyse a dump. Scroll down till you see both the type of crash and what part/driver that caused it and post back here.

 

I highly doubt the gpu is faulty. Never heard of a gpu causing a blue screen in cpuz before. Are you running an older version of cpuz by chance?

Pretty much in everything else I managed to test, for example Unigine Heaven.

I forgot to mention, those BSOD-s do not create a dump since they freeze on 0%.

I did use WhoCrashed and BlueScreenView when diagnosing the other issues the system had, and those other issues have been solved.

 

This "cpu-z" crash happened after "everything was solved and the system wasn't crashing any longer", tried opening CPU-Z just to check if the RAM is working on the XMP set in the bios. Lol

 

It's a prebuilt PC of a local company comprising of those parts:

Ryzen 5 3500X + box cooler

Asus b450m-a

1x 8GB kingston hyperx fury 2666

1x 8GB Kingston Fury 3200

Asus 5500xt Strix 8GB

Adata 6000pnp 512GB NVME

Toshiba 1TB HDD

MS industrial 500W psu (trash)

Ms industrial case with 4 fans

 

Used another ram (new), cpu (1600x), ssd/os, gpu (hd 4300),...

And it does crash the same on a new win10 22h2 without drivers.

 

Btw, the system had a 2 year warranty that expired 3 weeks ago, 2 weeks before the main issues started (crashing with reboot after a few minutes if doing anything).

I'll have to find a way to test the GPU in a system.

Unless the GPU is crashing in real-world usage...I wouldn't lose sleep over CPU-Z

I would. This is an issue I have to solve, or at least be certain it can't be solved. It's interesting

So start with some games with the video settings cranked up to max...see what happens.

I am the IT department. The PC is a personal computer of a higher-up that a kid uses.

Work computers are usually HP, Lenovo and Dell prebuilts, terrible machines.

The backstory isn't important. It is a low end gaming PC that experiences one of the weirdest issues I've ever come across (and trust me, I've seen a few in the last 20 years of working with computers).

I might take the GPU home and test it in one of my rigs. I have to know if it's going to cause the same issue. Not in my main PC though.

Ok, this is weird. Running CPU-Z with the Asus Rog skin doesn't cause the BSOD. The same CPU-Z version. :S

Ok, of all the CPU-Z 2.03 versions it crashes only when starting the default and the MSI ones. The others start just fine and run fine. :S

With a 380X the system does not crash. But MSI kombustor did. One of the memory modules turned out to be bad.

Now, the 5500XT still crashes CPU-Z but when in my PC it works flawlessly! :S

I'm having the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with the EXACT SAME VIDEO CARD.

RX 5500 XT OC 8GB ASUS ROG STRIX.

 

I'm not sure what's going on, but when CPU-Z reaches 67% and starts loading graphics, I get an instant BSOD.

Is it also a Ryzen system? B450 chipset? Windows 10 or 11?

Sure! Here's my rig:

Also, I'm running Windows 11 Home 64-bit.

System is updated with the latest drivers. It's a fresh install. I've formatted this computer and started having problems with CPU-Z. I've got nothing besides drivers, Speccy and CPU-Z installed (except W11 bloat, ofc).

I see you're on an really old bios version.

I would highly recommend flashing f52g, AGESA V2 1.2.0.7 does wonders for performance and stability.

And here's the latest chipset driver;

Well, it's crashing here with W11... Maybe I'll downgrade this to W10. I'm actually selling this PC this week, so It'll be nice to hand over a stable machine.

In order to answer here, I quickly made myself an account.
 

I have an Asrock RX 5500 XT Phantom Gaming D 8G OC and I can confirm the error.
Previously I used the card in a system with an Intel i7-4790 and the problem did not occur. Since the card is in a newer PC, the problem occurs.
 

CPU-Z version 2.03 causes a BSOD at startup.
CPU-Z in the ASUS ROG version 2.03 version works fine.

HWmonitor causes a BSOD at startup, too.

System details:
MB: Z370I GAMING PRO CARBON AC (latest BIOS)
CPU: Intel i5-8500t
RAM: 16GB DDR4 2666
VGA: Asrock RX 5500 XT Phantom Gaming D 8G OC
OS: MS Windows 10 64 Bit
All drivers are up to date.

I have tried various other programs and games but the error could only be reproduced in the two named programs.

Thank you for letting me know. This confirms the issue is related to a 5500XT and not related to a Ryzen platform, the only other "common" things is using DDR4 RAM.

 

I think I'll contact the devs of CPU-Z.
