Fortnite stuttering?

OH2FTU

Hi,

I'm kind of new to gaming. Started with Fortnite, as my kids play it too.

I went all in on a i9-13900K rig;

  • MSI Mag Tomahawk Z690 D4 (wifi)
  • i9-13900k, cooled by LF II 420mm. It does around 40k points in cinebench so cooling is not an issue (draws around 390W).
  • 2x16GB G.Skill 3600MTs CL16 ram (Trident Z neo), XMP enabled
  • MSI 3070TI Suprim X, power cap at 106% Set to gaming mode.
  • WD SN850X drive, in the correct M.2 slot. Crystaldiskinfo gets me about right perf here too.

I'm gaming at 1440p, FPS is capped to 60 fps. I do however get a lot of drops to 10-20fps every now and then. Even in the lobby.

Settings are at auto.

Monitoring CPU usage (task manager & HWinfo) and GPU usage (MSI Afterburner) on another monitor, they are all good (GPU at around 40%, CPU low).

What gives? Any ideas? how could I better monitor the FPS's (1% lows etc) while playing?

You probably have enabled V-Sync. Disable it and should be ok.

V-sync is disabled, as I have no monitor that supports it

I'm not talking about G-sync. V-Sync is entirely different software option; look in game graphics settings.

You really need to upgrade to a 144hz screen as you are wasting the power you have playing at 60fps...and you are at a disadvantage against other pc players because of it.

As for the stuttering etc... Fortnite can be like that when you first start the game.

Try and wait 5 minutes in the main menu without doing anything before you load into the map.

I upgraded to a 4070 TI and tried 1080p gaming. Still the same, frequent fps drops to 20-30fps.

Lumen off.

I can't see how a 144hz display would be of any use.

Same problem here , built 3 different pc just to stop the stuttering issues. 1st one was a 1060- 7 1700 stuttering in fortnite, bfv . 2nd 10900k/3090 stuttering like crazy in fortnite ,bf2042 . And then the 3rd (actual pc at the moment) 13900k/3090 still stuttering like hell on fortnite , battlefield and now for the first time rainbow six siege … haven’t found any fix since all this time …

If you have a 4070ti and are experiencing drops as low as 20-30fps at 1080p then something is very seriously wrong somewhere.

I'm not sure, but doesn't Fortnite have to install shaders or something before you start playing?

That's why it often stops stuttering after the first 10-15 minutes.

Try waiting in the pre game lobby for a little while before you load into a game.
