I heard from a couple friends on teamspeak a couple months ago about graphite being faster then gold and would change our tech forever. Now i only heard from them and not sure if they were just joking or what, but recently i read that a engineer sent a text message over graphite cpu or something like that...

Has there been anymore updates with this?

Will graphite ever be able to work over gold seeing as its so fragile it would break on the install?

If anyone has links to articles or anything that would be awesome, always interested in this stuff and would love to learn more about this...

Gold is good conductor, not sure if it's at all good as semiconductor.

Think he meant to say Graphene. CPU's are made out of Silicon, a semiconductor.

Gold is only good as a conductor though it has been quite a few years since I was at school but I don't think it has any semi-conducting properties though I could be wrong and right now I'm too tired to research it.

Yeah that's what I think too, gold has nothing to do with graphene.

Agreed and as far as I know, gold has had nothing to do with any CPU's, well maybe on the Intel Pentium Pro which had gold impregnated into the heat spreader or something like that

I think they use some gold in cpu's

Not in the chip I wouldn't have thought but then again I don't know for sure

lol I got no knowledge with this and interesting topic though.

it first caught my eyes with graphite (was thinking corsain) vs gold (new case brand or something?) hahahahaha

still interesting topic already learned a thing or two.

lol at the semiconductor knowledge on this forum. Some people obviously didn't pay attention in Physics :P

And RE: Graphene, it is the same as graphite, except larger sheets of it. Graphite is basically small sheets of Carbon 'honeycomb' which will conduct. Both are great conductors because they both have free (of delocalised) electrons. Graphite is not a 'shitty' conductor as someone put it, it's just as conductive as graphene technically, The only thing that makes Graphite less conductive is that the electrons don't have easy passage through the honeycomb lattice, they can only travel parallel to it. If the lattice is in the way of the passage of electrons, resistance will go up. It's kinda hard to explain, although, it makes sense.

I'd love Graphene to become more prominent, although I hate the way that the Chinese now have the research monopoly, despite the UK being in the forefront just 3 years ago.

By "shitty" I've meant that graphite has much higher specific resistance compared to gold and other common conductors (300-400x if I remember correctly). :D Although AFAIK graphene is one-of-a-kind 2D crystal structure we've worked with, so it might have some really interesting properties which graphite doesn't have.

(I assume it's called "specific resistance" in English, I'm not a native speaker, sorry)

Any unknown button should be pressed even number of times.
