Buy 7600Mhz RAM or wait? + Water-cooling question

Hello,

 

I bought 7600Mhz TeamGroup RAM, I can see that 8000Mhz is soon to be purchasable but I don't know if I should just get 7600Mhz and OC myself.

 

Also, does anyone know if 7600Mhz RAM from TeamGroup is double sided? I plan to water cool it.

Either way you're likely to be IMC and board limited, not memory limited. DDR5 8000 struggles to POST on a lot of boards, even with some very nice boards (my Unify-X is near impossible to fully stabilize at 8000MT/s, even though the memory kit I've got is plenty capable of that), especially if you're running a 12900KS like you are. If you've got a Z790 Apex or a Dark, then 8000 is a genuine possibility, but if you don't have one of those two boards I'd say it's completely out of the question. 

 

Since you'll need to put in effort to get it stable anyway, get the 7600MT/s kit and overclock it to 8000MT/s+, the difference between the two will probably just be a tick or two on the primaries, barely anything noticeable. A 7200MT/s kit would overclock just as well, though, if you want to save a bit of money and have an XMP profile that has a chance of turning on.

All 16GB DIMMs of DDR5 are single sided, and currently all 32GB DIMMs are dual sided.

Ok, then 8000 might be possible, though I wouldn't trust the XMP to function out of the box without at least some manual tweaking. I'd still personally go for the 7200MT/s kit and overclock it myself. 

 

Do note that the Z790 Apex has had a ton of QC issues, so it's very possible that you end up with a bad one that can't run 8000MT/s. One of the writers at IgorsLabs actually had 2-3 Z790 Apexes (both retail and samples from ASUS) that all clock memory worse than a Z790 Hero before eventually giving up on that board. Just be warned in case you have issues when trying to get 8000MT/s to work that if nothing helps get it stable, you might have to RMA it and hope you have more luck with the next one.

There always were issues with Apex. I can only hope and try. RMA is always possible. Bought it directly from ASUS.

I also can't find any info on Z790 being bad. Z690 yes, but not Z790.

 

But anyhow, I guess I'll just stick to 7600Mhz and if I feel like upgrading my old Z690 Apex can have this 7600Mhz RAM

This is what I'm basing this off of, including some other reports of DOA boards with bending issues. It's not as bad as the Z690 Apex, that board was 50/50 whether you got one that wasn't crippled, but it's not good for a board that costs $800 and is competing with the seemingly more consistent Z790 Dark.

Ah we will see. My one wasn't bent. Seems all good.
