1440p vs 4k

Go to solution Solved by One Who Craves Souls,

What I see is a newly introduced 4K TN monitor vs high performance 1440p IPS quality monitor, normally I'd say whatever you need, but for this I say no! Buy the quality 1440p.

4K it's still pretty new, that means not only the horsepower needed, but the dpi scaling on desktop and that in a year you could probably buy a quality 4K for the same price... don't fall into the hype, wait, it's always the same with technology.

It's all hype, some people will recommend you the 4k just for the heck of it and because it's not their money.

Do you want a one monitor or multi monitor set up?
I find that's one of the biggest deciding factors.

If it's single, and you've got the money, why not go 4k?

you can run games on the 4K Samsung at 1440p and it would still look good and run 4K on the desktop (and less demanding games).

Get 4k if you can afford it. This monitor supports DP1.2 so you can game at 60hz no problem :)

As long as you have enough GPU horsepower for a triple monitor setup, you will be fine with 4k gaming.

I would go with 1440p because like you said 4k is hard to drive if you don't have the hardware and unless you are always watching in 4k there isn't really a point in 4k. Operating systems have really terrible dpi scaling in 4k so everything looks really small. So whole heartedly I would go with the 1440p option

I don't have a build yet, but is it worth it for example to go crossfire with r9 290s over 1 780 ti so i could do 4k gaming? Or get 1 780 ti for 1440p. And then the 4k monitor is still more expensive. Youtubers still game at 1440p, including Linus, so I don't know. Maybe it's not worth it yet. Single monitor for those of you people who asked :)

Yeah... Cause scaling... You would have black bars.

both are 16:9 resolutions... it would scale perfectly

Nope. It would work perfectly fine with 1080p but not with 1440p. Because 3840*2160/ 2560*1440 = 2,25 and not like 1080p which would be 3840*2160/1920*1080= 4 so it could be even on every side.

I completely agree with @One Who Craves Souls (interesting name I must say :o). He is 100% right on the money, 4K is just all hype ATM. However, I don't need to say anything more because it's already been said. Go for a high end 1440p display or possibly 1600p as I think money would be well spent on a display like that.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.
