Currently, if one uses multiple monitors for a game, the software increases the FOV to match the width of the combined monitors. If I'm wrong, tell me.

What I'm wondering is: could we, instead of increasing FOV, make a 3D map of the placement of the monitors and have the game render, multiple, POVs? One for each display.

What would be the processing cost?

Would it require additional development costs?

Would there be synching issues between displays?

Any other issues?

So you want to know if it would be possible to veiw a scene from multiple angles using multiple monitors, right? \

I don't see why this isn't possible but it is just pointless for devs as most people only use one monitor and also what would you use the extra POVs for? Im assuming like you have first person and then like an overveiw of a battle?

generally games will open in a single window reguardless of how many you have. it takes firmware to implement multi-display games. I think to incorporate different POV it would have to be in game already.

Technically yes, it is possible, but in any FPS (or any other genre for that matter) it would be considered an unfair advantage. As far as multiplying the FOV goes it would 1, make the game much harder to run, 2x, 3x, or 4x i am assuming (according to the amount of additional FOV's), 2 some engines will not be able to handle it.

As far as modern games go, i know of none that support this, unless you just want something like what is in ARMA. That is having the map on a different screen, even then it is done with a community addon.

Case Bitfenix Ghost, Mobo Asus Maximus VIII Ranger, CPU i7 6700K @4.2 Ghz cooled by Arctic cooling Freezer i30, (barely). GPU Nvidia GTX 970 Gigabyte G1 @1519Mhz core, RAM 16Gb Crucial Ballistix CL16 @2400Mhz. SSD 128GB Sandisk Ultra Plus as my OS drive. HDD's  1TB  Seagate ST31000524AS its OEM, 3TB Seagate Barracuda, 2x 500GB WDC Blue (RAID 0)

If it isn't working absolutely perfectly, according to all your assumptions, it is broken.

Each POV, if it's of in-game action, will require full rendering

most games don't use this but flight simulators like xplane could i guess, so technicaly you could have a 360 degrees around you for your cockpit + a chase cam + a map + fly by + whatever else view. You could link different computers via network to render their own screens. i don't know about any games tho

There are too many posts for me to adress specifically. So I'll just reply to things in one long post.

Yes, arbitrary positioning was a consideration, but my intent was for side by side setups. Whether flat or angled. The extra POV is for a more accurate rendering of the view the monitor is giving, since, monitors are flat and often angled.

Firmware? Are you high?

Multimonitor is just as unfair. And "multiplayer" and "unfair" are not considerations I am making at this time. And I'm assuming you mean "POV" when you said "FOV". And I'm aware each POV would require additional rendering.

The_Strict_Nein

Yes

What about a monitor or android that you could update on the fly with positional information to look around the cockpit?
