Slim 500w+ PSU?

Go to solution Solved by Anthony10,

I don't think there are any slim psus that meet your requirements.

How about one of the slim ones here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007902%20600454417&IsNodeId=1&name=500W ?

The non modular cables really suck, but I could try to work that out, either keep them or sleeved extensions. What do you think?

The first one on the list looks like a great contender: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151129

Anyone know of some low profile 500w+ psus? Sort of like that one in the Hadron Air?

Height is the concern, not so much length/width.

Some things I would like, not needed though:

modular

80+bronze/gold

I'm designing a Custom Laptop Desktop case proof of concept in Sketchup. The design will be a custom case with a custom vesa mounted monitor, making it a thick 23inch laptop :P. The psu is giving me problems in the design, because it is "bottlenecking" how thin the case could be.

Just use a power adapter thing. Like for laptops.... except they have stuff like that for custom low power builds. Highest you can get I think is about 300w.

I guess I was looking in the wrong places. The unit itself is solid. Whether or not it has the cables you need is another thing.

As I said, modular is a luxury not a must, the form factor was the must. This one happens to be quiet and 80+ gold, so I'm a happy camper. Now, if you'll excuse me I have to go make $2500 :P.

I had this idea a while back, but haven't gotten around to actually doing it. If you don't know about torque hinges or touch latches, they're perfect for something like this. Though if the monitor is heavy, something like the a metal quick release fastener might be better than the touch latches. My basic design had the monitor lifted a bit from the chassis, propped up on rubber or memory-foam stoppers on the bezel, and the quick release fasteners in two of them, though I was planning on using an 18.5 or 20" monitor, which made that a little easier.

thanks for the suggestions. I have always had the idea of designing a laptop that uses desktop grade components. Hopefully I'll be able to put the idea into reality. The usual roadblock is in the way though... $$$... time to go sell some stuff on ebay and get a job over the summer. I'm still not sure on the screen size honestly. I was using a mATX mobo in the designs, and now I've stepped down to mITX which gives me a bit more room. It's pretty late where I am and I'm about to go to bed, but I'll get some designs done in the morning :P. Thanks again.
