I've ruled out that I don't want the Pioneer so that just leaves the other two. If the Archgon can read and write BDXL-R/BDXL-RE, then I'll choose that one.

I've decided to go with the LG BP60NB10.

I've been looking into getting an external 4K Blu-ray drive for my laptop. After looking around, I was able to narrow my choices down to these make/models

Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD
Archgon MD-8107-U3YC-UHDB-S

LG BP60NB10

Unless I missed something, the specs for each one are mostly identical, so deciding which one to choose doesn't make it easy.

Putting the price aside, which is the most recommended for the best quality?

Do know that playing back 4k bluray on a pc is basically impossible difficulty due to drm.

Its so bad that 4k is basically banned on not officual bluray players and will at best play back at 1080p due to drm. IF your pc is even allowed at all to play blurays.

So before you buy these what are your systems specs?

Do you have an intel cpu with integrated graphics?

Does your board have a hdmi 2.0 port?

Do you have intel sgx available?

Do you have a dhcp 2.2 display that is connected via hdmi 2.0?

Do you hqve cyberlink powerdvds latest version bought?

If  even one of these is missing you CAN NOT PLAY BLURAY.

The drives listed here can also not be flashed (as far as I know) to used makemkv to rip the bluray so you can play it without needing all that bs requirements.

Yea 4k blu ray has issues, but most have been "solved" these days.

4k friendly blu-ray players is the goal, rather then a 4k blu-ray player. and then you use a libredrive firmware, and it does not touch the drm.

As for which one to buy? six of one half a dozen of the other. I would not stress it to much.
