Should i buy this 12 year old used display?

Saw somone selling a dell u2711 2k 27 inch for $86. The guy told me he bought it in 2014. the monitor in the picture looks great.

Do you think i should buy it?

It's about 50% of a new one, why not?   If it takes a shit, you're out a good dinner only.

 

Granted it's 10 years old, I wouldn't buy it.  But for you, sure.

Sure. Price is decent. Though I'd personally go for something with smaller bezels. All depends what your money is worth to you.

Looks good, price is decent, I'd say go check out if there's any damage on it or any issues, before buying it, look out for dead pixels

You do realize that if you wait about 5 days, you'll be able to get a brand new 27" 1440p IPS display with a warranty for under $200, right?

Based on the pic, it looks like somewhere in SE Asia. Probably Thailand or Vietnam.
If it is, $86 is going to be a really classy dinner for 2 person if Thailand. If Vietnam.... it's "eat until you vomit twice"

something to take in mind with older displays, is that the backlight may be absolute shyte by this point.

If you haven't seen the image it shows in person, don't buy it.  Even if it's ok, chances are it may fail soon.  New 27" monitors start at about EUR 150 here, so you'd be paying half price for a 12 year old display.

 

Why is it 12 years old when it was bought in 2014?

 

If you still want to buy it, it's maybe worth $10--15.  And then you have the hassle of taking it to a recycling place when it failed.

Unless you are very tight in budget, else I don't recommended you but it.

 

It is too old and too long in usage. If lucky you may still can use quite sometimes, if unlucky you may face end of life cycle and faulty anytime soon.
