I got one of the combo deals off Newegg for an AMD epyc process and a motherboard.

First board

  1. Memory D0 would not be detected
  2. replaced memory and swapped with a known working stick. same issue where D0 not detected
  3. replaced memory with QVL.  Same issue
  4. Got RMA from newegg

The second board (RMA came with new MoBo and CPU)

  1. Memory D0 would not be detected
  2. replaced memory and swapped with a known working stick. same issue where D0 not detected
  3. replaced memory with QVL.  Same issue

Looking at serve the home forums, they suggest trying to do a reset of the CPU and ensuring proper torque for the CPU.  What do I need to do this?

Yes, Epic and Threadripper CPUs have too many pins for the pressure to be estimated.
It should be around 14lb/inch or 1.5nm. Screw them in in 1-2-3 and unscrew 3-2-1.

You might have a torque wrech already or you need to buy one. I thought the Epic/Threadripper CPUs would include one, tho?

the combo from New egg has the CPU's pre-installed and "tested".  Both boards came "working" and, according to the history, only had a single memory stick populated. To me, this says the entire board was not tested.

do I need the AMD wrench?  looks to be about $30 via eBay.

Yes, you need the AMD wrench.

Just odd that they DIDN'T include it for you.

Because if you buy a ThreadRipper / Epyc CPU, that is included inside the CPU retail box.
