Hey everyone, I was planning on buying the LG C2 for Black Friday when it good on sale, I was planning on pairing it up with a 4080 when it launches, but with the recent 7900 XTX launch, I might be going with that! Now my questions is, should I still go for the C2 which only has HDMI 2.1 ports so it’s only 4k up to 120Hz, or wait for next year’s models that are expected to done with DP 2.1, since the cards are supposed to get above 4k 120Hz? Any advice is appreciated!

Why would LG put a DisplayPort in a TV? Also what are you going to play on a TV above 120Hz? Even 60 is smooth enough for controller/couch style games. And this is 4K we are talking about. Some older games will run at 4k above 120 fps, but I doubt it will last when next gen titles that drop ps4/xbone start coming out.

If you are just playing on it, even if they could go beyond it, you are not running games at 120 fps+ on most hardware like that. I understand that the 4090 is kinda limited in the refresh rate stuff and it can do, but just because the 7900XTX has it doesnt mean you will use it, Its a TV, not a monitor so dont expect it to have the same features as a monitor would. Tvs wont have the benefits as the monitors will, they will probably stick to 120hz and just try different things to improve picture quality.

Where did you hear that rumour? It'd be an odd choice.

I think it basically comes down to this; do you need it now, and are you willing to pay the extra hundreds of dollars it's going to cost to get the newer model TV?
IMO it doesn't make sense, especially since there are very few games that will run at 4k 120hz, and you likely won't notice the difference.

Ehhhh that's poor reasoning IMO. That's like saying any game is fine at 60hz. Doesn't mean that it won't be better at a higher refresh rate.

I could maybe see them pushing it on a model or two, the C2 was used by people as a monitor so perhaps they're going to try and blur the lines a bit.

I apologize, I meant new monitors are going to start coming out with DP 2.1, not that the C2 was going to be upgraded.

I would use this as a monitor on my desk, not as a TV on the wall, and as PC hardware keeps improving, I don’t want to be limited by a purchase that I want to last me at least 5 years.

That’s why I am asking if I should get the TV now or wait for new monitors next year with DP2.1 and get one of those.

Again, I apologize for the confusion, I meant the new 2023 monitors having DP2.1, not that the C2 was going to be upgraded.
