New example of UE4 engine

jmaster299

The UE4 engine is showing a lot of promise. UE3 has been used for soooooooooooo long that the excitement over UE4, at least mine, is almost palpable. This was done by a private user and uploaded to youtube, so I expect final products from studios like 2K to be even better. The video in the article is a remake of a couple of minutes from Bioshock.

I'm more hyped to see directx 12 released and for studios to actually use it. Amazes me some games are still based on directx 9. (It's not a AAA title, but train sim 2014 runs at avg 30fps with a overclocked FX8350 or i5, and my R9 290). Just not enough draw calls to make the most of the PCs power. DX12 should take performance to the next level.

They should do a remaster version.

The PC port is pretty broken with the crashes and 30 fps cap on animations.

I never had issues with the PC version.

I ran the PC version just fine, personally. Did it just randomly crash? :/

I still don't know what you are going on about. This has NOTHING to do with DX9. I don't know what your talking about with Tomb Raider or Crysis 3 either. Crysis 3 uses the Crytek engine and is DX11 only. Tomb Raider runs DX11 if your system supports it, but I don't know what engine it uses. It's not UE4 though, because Daylight is the first UE4 game to be released.

GPU spikes straight up to 99% GPU usage at 1080p... Yes, it is very demanding... I get some lag like V-Sync isn't turned on sometimes...

Is it with MSAA turned on? If yes then I suppose it wont be that bad once I turn it off.

100% GPU usage, or as close to it as you can get, is a good thing. You can peak at 100% but not have issues. But in this case it just sounds like the game is too demanding for your GPU with the settings you are using.

Considering that it is being played on 1080p, my 770 is unable to max the game out without having 99% GPU usage... UE4 sure does make games look way better but way more demanding than ever. I don't know any games that my GTx 770 can't max out beside daylight..

I can name Crysis 3, Metro Last Light right off the top of my head. You can certainly play them with good settings on your 770 at 1080p, but you can not max them out and maintain good framerates. Unless you are one of those people who thinks 30+ fps is good. You can't even max out Titanfall as it requires a minimum of 3GB of VRAM for what they call "Insane Textures", which is their max setting.

Or are u using a 4GB 770? That would make a difference in all those games.

I only have 2GB version because 1080p doesn't and will never go pass 2GB... The highest VRAM usage in a game I've ever seen was 1.3GB usage with 99% GPU usage, possible with Nvidia control panel, forcing the maximum available graphic quality setting to override the settings in games. Without overriding the application, the max VRAM usage the game(not daylight) at max setting is at 500MB VRAM usage and 15-25% GPU usage.

Nvidia control panel's graphic setting override will literally make the fastest card in quad CFX/SLI look like trash in the most demanding games, probably at 1080p lol...

Not true again. I play several games that max out my 2GB of VRAM and would use more than 2GB if I had it. Hell, BF3 used more than 2GB of VRAM when I had my old GTX 570 HD 2.5GB. I played with less than ultra settings and BF3 would use around 2.25GB of VRAM, monitored in real time with EVGA Precision and Rivatuner, and my monitor is only 1680x1050.

Here is a screenshot of the settings I use in Titanfall. I do not change anything in the Nvidia Control Panel except to force VSYNC off, I haven't read that they fixed that bug in Titanfall yet. 9 years as a Nvidia user, and I have never had to change settings in the Nvidia control panel in order for games to fully utilize my GPUs. So I have no idea where you are getting the nonsense that you have to override all your game settings just use more VRAM. Back to Titanfall, with those settings I consistently sit at over 2030 MB for my VRAM usage. Out of a total of only 2048MB, that is most definitely maxing out my available VRAM, and again I'm playing at less than 1080p. I'll peak at 2040MB during a match.

NzYyB9gl.jpg

So, your claims about your VRAM usage are either intentionally false, or you need to get a better program to monitor your GPU usage numbers.

Edit:

I made a video of the match I played and had intended to upload it with this post but didn't feel like messing with youtube. So, I ran the video and took a few screenshots while playing to show my VRAM usage. To save on file size the bitrate of the recording is turned down, so the quality isn't 100%. So I tried to take screenshots where you could clearly see my RivaTuner display. It's in the bottom left corner, in blue, and shows Temp, GPU usage, VRAM usage and FPS.

It doesn't really matter if you run out of ram.

Battlefield 4 uses more than 2GB vram and I have no problem maxing it out with 70+FPS

Even in 4K Battlefield 4 is still over 30-40FPS on my GTX670 which is still playable.

Unreal Engine 4 is a huge disappointment.

The huge game changing feature was SVOGI and they cut it out...

All the features in this video aren't in the engine anymore:

It's strange because their epic-looking and demanding-looking demo was running on a gtx 680, which has the same if not a little worse performance than a 770 :/
