PSU runs gtx 780 3gb but NOT gtx 1660 super!? Why??

centurion_08

Hi.

Title is everything. This is exactly what is happening in my case. Both cards are 100% working, but for some reason my power supply runs only the first one. 1 out 3-4 times my pc will turn on with 1660 super. Sometimes it will run for xx time and when i'll restart it goes to black screen limbo with my mouse flashing on and off. I'm totally clueless. Help. The gtx 780 consumes more power and has 2 power connectors 8+6 unlike 1660 which as only one 6 pin. What the fuck

1660 super draws a little bit more wattage.
You haven’t given anything to be able to use to help you. Power supply model, what cables you’re using to power the graphics cards.
You haven’t said if you’ve tried DDU to uninstall the 780 drivers. You haven’t said what you’ve tried to do to troubleshoot.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

GTX 780 peaks at 220 watts,  1660 Super should peak at around 120 watts.

It could be an issue about how much power you draw from power rails, if your power supply has multiple rails.

The GTX 780 should draw most of its power from the extra connectors (150 + 75 = 225 w) and maybe10-20w from pci-e slot,  while the 1660 super will take 50-60w from the slot and the rest from the extra 6 pin connectors.

The 1660 being newer and more powerful , it could keep your cpu more time at 100% giving you more frames, and you could have higher bursts of power consumption that your power supply may not like.

Fresh windows install, newest drivers, bios updated. My main psu is silentiumPC Vero m3 600w bronze semi-modular. It's brand new, 3 weeks old. It perfectly runs the 780 3gb, no sweat. With 1660 it switches on 1-2 times out 4-5-6. What is interesting, my backup psu the old school OCZ Xstream 600 semi-modular runs both of them just fine. It's a 7 or more years old psu mind you.

Might help if I looked past the idle power consumption graphs.

Got it working, and fucking hell it was annyoing. After 5 hours of stress testing and swapping multiple hardware parts it all came down to mobo bios update. It turn out i DIDN'T had the newest one.I had last but one. I never figured that would be so essential. MSI-G43 seems to have a conflict. I was pulling my hair out on this. Thanks for hints and help everyone.
