Hi folks,

My system won't start, when I hit the power button, the CPU LED stays red which means it has problems. Also one of my RAM sticks gets really hot. Also my monitor says: "NO SIGNAL"...

The components:

Asus Sabertooth Z77

Intel Core i7 3770K

Corsair H100i

Corsair Dominator Platinums

Greetings from the Netherlands!

Try to get that hot RAM stick out and then try to boot.

Why exactly would that help if the CPU LED is burning red?

I tried it but no succes.

Dear guys, the CPU LED glows red, normally it jumps over all the LED's such as the RAM LED etc, but now it stays at the CPU LED, I'm pretty sure that there is a problem with the CPU or with the socket.

Is there anything I can do to find out what is the problem and/or how to fix this? I already reinstalled my CPU and yes I've used new thermal paste.

Do you have another 1155 CPU laying around (some people do)?

The chances of you having a faulty CPU is pretty slim, in 15 years I've only encounted three and that was because the moron snapped the pins off two and the other was an AMD that some guy had overclocked massively and burnt it out, think it was an old Athlon or something I can't remember.

You can't overheat those CPU's, they'll should declock or shut down or whatever before any damage occures.

If I'm wrong then I'll apologise.

Check your CPU power is all plugged in correctly at both ends. If its a modular cable and you have a spare try out the spare one.

Semi modular..

Unfortunately I don't have any spare motherboard or CPU...

Any suggestions what I should or could do?

I still don't think it is your CPU, the odds of that happening out of the blue is so insignificant it's not even worth thinking about in my opinion, but have you tried the RAM, if it's getting warm having you run it at a lower speed (not sure if that would work) or even with a single stick in and see if that works?

Still check the connection at the motherboards end, unplug it, make sure there isn't anything in the socket and then re-attach it. Other then that I don't know what to try short of finding a different PSU to try or a different CPU or Mobo to further diagnose the issue.

I tried with the single stick, still the CPU light glows red.

The biggest problem is that I can not see what exactly is happening since I don't get signal on my monitor. What does that say about the defect?

maybe you could check your cpu with a different mobo and reply.

I don't, I'm trying to think if there is anybody I know who uses 1155...

I've never had any issues with CPU's, what I would hazard a guess at is the motherboard itself.

What was you doing before this happened and did you notice any different behavior while using it?

CPU or socket. Check out the socket for damage.

Why did you have to reinstall your cpu?

Because I thought that might fix the issue.

Will check the socket for damage tomorrow, should I just look for bent pins or also something else?

To be honest I highly doubt you'll get any different readings, I don't know of anyone who has had a CPU fail on its own, I bet even on this forum very few people have ever had any issues like that but you could message a moderator, they seem very knowledgeable when it comes to things like this.

I'm out of ideas what to try, also wouldn't want to give you any wrong information because that's not how I roll, if I did give you bad info then I'll apologise.

I think the same since I also don't get signal to my monitor.

Did nothing special and didn't notice anything special..

Bent or missing pins, or maybe any debris that may have gotten (unlikely) in there, you never know.
