High Quality Earbuds or Headphones over USB

danomicar

Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade the audio on my racing simulator. It connects to my PC via USB, so my only route for audio is USB.

Any suggestions on a pair of wired earbuds (preferred) or headphones that connect over USB(3.0 OR C)?

Budget is around $300 US.

I can personally recommend the Steinberg UR12, I payed about 60 for a used one and it's been doing great. Another option might be a pair of HyperX Cloud IIs, they come with a USB to AUX dongle from what I remember.

I will find your Laptop thread and I will recommend an ITX build instead

Thanks for responding!

In order to get audio over USB, I need a DAC/AMP? Is that why my $10 USB to 3.5MM converter sounds so terrible?

you do need a dac amp to get audio over usb but that $10 converter is also a dac amp and will work perfectly fine with a lot of headphones. only the headphones that suck a lot of power need a more powerful dac amp. if you use IEMs, you don't need a dedicated dac amp as your current converter should be good enough due to the efficiency of modern IEMs and dac amps
