I'm baffled here, I've had my fair share of SSDs fail and not allow me to read/write and sometimes not show up in disk management, but I can't see this one at all. Its a few year old Corsair V64 that was used for about 6 months and then turned off for over a year. I booted it up about 6 months ago to check on it and it has been off since then, now I'm rebuilding the computer and it fails to show up anyway that I try.

I've tried different USB adapters and docks, and plugging it directly into a different computer. Will not show up in My Computer, Disk Manager, Device Manager, BIOS, POST screen, Minitool, Spinrite, or Corsair SSD Toolbox.

Is there anything I missed to try out? It was used extremely little, around an hour a week for the short time it was even used, so I really doubt it is maxed on its writes. Even then, shouldn't it still show up?

Yes it should still show up.

I'm not 100% sure if this is what you meant by Disk Management, but I'm guessing you did this? :

Control Panel > System and Security > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management

If it doesn't show up there, try taking it to a store like NCIX to see if they can format it. There is also a chance it has died :(

Forgot to mention that DiskPart doesn't find it either.

Yes I meant the Windows built in Disk Management. Best thing I have here is Geek Squad, and I wouldn't even let them touch my digital personal organizer if I could even find it.

yes penance is correct

if it is not found by any utility (which is what most computer places use too) then there is not much you can do about it :(

even if its write cycles were finished you would still be able to read from it

this SSD is dead for sure, and you should go buying more reliable ones in the future :) for example the Intel 730 series

I kinda assumed it was dead, just figured I'd ask to see if anyone else could come up with something. Thanks for the help.

No offense, but the 730 Just came out, how can you say it is reliable other than the fact that it is from Intel? More likely than not it is reliable, but its a little early to be saying that IMO. This SSD was purchased in 2010, back when there weren't many reliable SSD's around other than X-25M's and I already had one of those, wanted to try something new.

well intel has a reputation for making some of the most reliable datacenter grade SSDs on the entire market

which is why their 530 series was so popular

now they claim with their 730 series 70GB of writes per day which is almost 4x that of the rest of SSDs

that means it is likely to last up to 4x longer in years, or be capable of writing 4x more data to it without having a sooner failure

intel make some of the best SSDs for reliability, not speed

you can get faster performance on a samsung 840pro

It was in an office at a small warehouse that is climate controlled.

Do you know if the warehouse is damp. As the drive may have been affected over time if storred in a damp location for more than a few months.

Typical humidity levels, so I don't think that is the issue. There are about a dozen other computers in there with it, and even a few outside the climate controlled area that have been running for 5+ years without being touched.

I can't think of any way that could have caused it to die, it wasn't dirty inside the computer and the computer has never been cleaned so static isn't a problem. Was always plugged into a UPS when in use, even then it is on very clean power. Just very odd that it died, I just figured I was missing an obvious step to make a computer see it.
