AM5 cooler out yet?

Chiyawa

Hi, everyone, just to confirm:

Are there any coolers that fit AM5 socket right out of the box (I mean with appropriate mounting brackets and such)?

I know AM4 coolers should be compatible (with an asterisk) but I found quite many Youtubers noted that the AM4 cooler that uses the latch system works whereas those that comes with their backplate are having issue.

Anyway, is Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo enough to cool Ryzen 5 7600X, assuming I manage to find an AM5 bracket for it?

Regards,

Chiyawa

Coolers have been out for years. If the cooler needs to use its own AMD backplate, it won't work. If it utilizes the stock backplate, it will. Luckily the majority of good coolers all use the stock backplate. That cooler isn't very good but it'll work.

Hyper 212 evo is not designed to work well with a High wattage CPU. Anything over 100W and that cooler pretty much hits its limit for usefulness since in order to keep things cool you have to strap a pretty high RPM fan on it.

Most Noctua coolers will work just fine if they come with the bracket for am4 and some should be shipping with am5 hardware if its really needed. Just check to see which ones worked 🙂

no. You should get a much better cooler, like the Deepcool AK620 or the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4.

I see. I did change out the 1600rpm stock fans to MF120R ARGB 2000 rpm fans, which give a good 2.14mmH2O static pressure.compare to stock 1.6ish mmH2O.

AK620 working quite well with my 7900x, even better after some CO adjustments.

Well, I remove the 2 stock fans that came with the cooler and replace it with MF120R aRGB fan which runs at 2000RPM.

Dark Rock Pro are quite expensive in my local market, some sells at close to USD 120 (including tax). I still couldn't find DeepCool AK620, but many of my local shops do have MasterAir MA620P, a dual fan dual tower cooler similar to DeepCool AK62. I wonder if it is capable for 7600X...

Not a great cooler to begin with but it requires its own backplate for AM4/5 so even if it was good, it wouldn't work.

I see. Thanks for the info, but that is pretty much what I can afford right now.

Is Zen4 really a system you should be investing in if a proper cooler for it too expensive?

Well, I was thinking of upgrading to Zen 4 or maybe Zen 5 in a year or 2, so I'm surveying for the price to estimate how much I need to spend for the upgrade. So far AM5 Zen 4 system is kinda expensive, even with a budget for USD1000 is difficult to get a complete fully operational system. Last time even when Zen 2 launch with X570 Mobo, you can still get a good working system with USD1000 (well, at least before the pandemic hit hard). There seems to be a sudden price hike, and make worse is that the new chips are pretty hot that needs better cooler to cool it down

No need. The 7600x is easy to cool and doesn't lose much performance when using a weaker cooler like the Wraith Spire.

Ah, I think I saw that video recently. Well, at least Wraith Spire is capable to cool 7600X down, but I wonder what about Wraith Stealth. Sure it is more tinier than Spire. Still, amazing enough, Jayz2Cents did note that the CPU seems to linger at 95c but doesn't thermal throttle, and it's 'by design'. I'm still wondering how true it is.

u can always set negative curve optimizer & temp limit without losing gaming performance

Coming from AMD who designed it, it's about as true as it gets.

Negative curve optimizer? Hmm, well, this is my first time hearing this.

Yeah, still quite strange that the CPU behaves like that. Usually, we will be thermal throttled by that point and the speed will be reduce dramatically.

Pushing higher temperatures becomes easier to do within safe limits as measurements become more accurate and CPU design is better understood. Temps may have been just as high before in hot spots that weren't near sensors.

Cooling is also more efficient with higher temp deltas so this is a big advantage of the Ryzen 7000 series.
