Yup the Neo G9 is dual 1440p not 4K.

Since you are waiting for 4080, they is no issue gaming in 4K (8.29 MP) or this Neo G9 (7.37 MP).

Best viewing experience for gaming is depends on user preferable.

But for all gaming compatible without black bar, then it is only 16:9 Wide.

For 21:9 Ultrawide or 32:9 Super Ultrawide, not all games support this aspect ratio, for those not support they will be black bar on left and right.

Hey everyone, so I’m planning on upgrading my whole setup and I had chosen the Samsung Neo G9 G95NA, but after seeing Linus’s about the Asus PG42UQ, I'm debating on which would be the best investment, so I was hoping to get some advice. They’re very similar except 49vs42 inches and Ultrawide on the Samsung side, I’ve never had an ultra wide, so I’m not sure if that’s better or not.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Well unless you are just using the monitor for office work then you might need a better gpu depending on the one you have rn cause the pixel count is higher and therefore gaming performance is worse. But assuming you have a gpu fit for either monitor in my opinion it is best just to get the cheaper one because they are both very good.

1st, Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 is Super Ultrawide, 32:9 aspect ratio. This is mini-LED VA panel and 5120x1440 resolution, 240hz.

2nd, Asus PG42UQ is Wide, 16:9 aspect ratio. This is OLED panel and 3840x2160 (4K) resolution, 138hz.

Both is totally no part is similar.

None of this two monitor is what you want to try out of Ultrawide which is 21:9 aspect ratio.

Additonal information, 49" Super Ultrawide = 34" Ultrawide = 27" Wide in same height.

I'm waiting for Radeon to release but it'll either be a 4080 or something from AMD in that level.

Thanks for the info, I guess I'll go for the Asus, I've never gamed in 4k, I want to get a taste of that 4K Ray Tracing.

That's the TV that Linus was using on his personal setup that he ended up replacing with the Asus PG42UQ.

The one he replaced is FO48U, and the one he burnt-in is either C1 or CX. I don't think he ever use C2 (which came in the same 42 inch size as the Asus's, and the main reason why he loved it so much)

We don't have details review on PG42UQ just yet but from the info they (the LTT) published and pretty much just glossed over, it seems to be quite a sinificantly inferior option when it comes to image quality (it's signifinificantly more dimmed than C2 and OLED is already very dim by its nature)

The PG42UQ main advantage over C2 is the fact that it's not a TV and so you won't have to deal with TV issues like no native support for auto wake up and sleep feature or compatibility with driver level upscaling (NIS and RSR) but then again, it's also a TV which allows you to watch HDR movies from it as well (a word of advice, the vast majority of streaming service don't allow streaming HDR or 4k on Windows, you will need a TV or Chromecast to take advantage of that)

So I went back and watched the video again, he is replacing the LG 42C2PUA in his setup with the Asus PG42UQ, and he said the Asus has all the things the LG C2 has.

This would be straight gaming/work monitor so I don't need to stream HDR although it says it has HDR10.

No worries, just making sure I was operating with the right information!

Not really, it's still a fact that based on the information they glossed over, the Asus's is quite a bit worse than C2 when it comes to brightness (which like I've said before, is already quite an issue with OLED)

Here, this is right from that LTT video

image.thumb.png.23c2e3c82bc35976e80b406fb5bb6b48.png

That monitor has like a flat 100 nits at 100 percent windows and don't even reach 600 nits at peak while the C2 can do 177 nits at full Windows in SDR and go as high as 699 nits in HDR (granted the 100 percent Windows in HDR isn't that much better but that would make the PG42UQ, at most, on par with the C2 when it comes to image quality - actually not even that)

Here's the report from rting

image.thumb.png.d1e93e3cec46023791fb02efff39a5e2.png

I've made this remark before but assuming that LTT data was accurate, the PG42UQ is like a 42 inch version of FO48U. May not even be competitive with last year C1 in raw image.

However 1. it does offer values when it comes to PC compatibility like I've mentioned before and also come with DP port 2. it has slightly higher refreh rate than C2 and 3. it has heatsink component which may help with burn-in (but given how they were even more conservative than LG when it comes to brightness, I don't have that much faith in their hardware and 4. the LTT data maybe wrong - and it's very well be, Plouffe is a terrible monitor reviewer thus far and this is a sponsored video on top of everything.

But unless he royally screwed everything up and the rting result (if they ever tested it), are significantly differ from that of his own, I wouldn't spend a cent more than what I would on C2 - all right maybe +20 percent max for the peace of mind and having all of the PC monitor features. But if you don't mind 120hz, HDMI 2.1 and dealing with some of the TV hassles (much of those can actually been fixed, you just have to put some work into it), C2 is a cheaper and better option, it's hard to justify going with that monitor.

If you aren't in a hurry, it also helps to just wait until the full review of this monitor came out - there are also more 42 inch OLED option coming out this year (Sony A90K 42 inch for example, which review will be coming out in probably just a couple of day - it's already in the early access on rting)

Thanks for all this information, it's really helpful. I guess I'll wait for full reviews on them, I could use a TV since I don't usually let my PC sleep, I just turn the monitor off, because I remote to it from my office. I might have other uses for the LG C2, do you know if it has PinP? And on the plus side, it comes with Stadia!

From what I understood, there's PinP but doesn't work day 1, not sure if it's working now. You can ask @Stahlmannhe do own that TV

The main reason he replaced the LG TV is because he had problems with it waking up. That was mostly because the software doing that wasn't playing nice with his "remote computer" solution. That's not something you'll have a problem with in a normal setup. All in all the Asus is a significant downgrade. It doesn't get as bright and it has a matte coating, destroying OLED's black levels.

I haven't personally tried it out yet but the option is present in the game optimizer submenu. (So i guess it works?)

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Saw a lot of people on reddit claims that it doesn't though so I dunno. Probably best to just try it out (if you've got the time) but it should given LG track record.
