So my comcast modem is on the opposite end of the house so my wifi kinda sucks and I can't move it but I want to wired internet and still have good wifi.  I wanted to see if I could just get a 100ft ethernet and plug it up into a router but I don't know much about setting up a router. Haven't done anything yet, just wanted some help and suggestions.

Should be just plug and play. If you're worried you can grab a 6' cable, haul your rig to the kitchen, set it up, confirm it works, then haul it back and do the cable run

5950X/4090FE primary rig  |  1920X/1070Ti Unraid for dockers  |  200TB TrueNAS w/ 1:1 backup

Yeah plug and play, with double NAT... if the doesn't enable bridge mode.

Is it an Xfinity Modem/Router combo? Xfinity does have their own APs (Access Point, basically what you're want to get a 2nd router to do rn), you could ask them about those as they're likely plug and play and do proper handoff.

The way Id do it is run the Ethernet cable to a switch. Connect a wireless AP and the stuff you want wired to the switch. This way you can plug stuff in wired and have good WiFi at that end of the house. The only downside is devices wont roam between the Comcast gateway and your AP, but roaming has really never been great when it comes to WIFi, outside of Mesh systems.

The Comcast box is not a modem, its a gateway (modem/router). You dont want to connect two routers together. Like others have stated it will cause double NAT.  My method wont cause double NAT.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Is there a way to make the router the gateway instead? I heard i can turn on DMZ. It's fine to not get another router because I'm pretty sure Comcast has solutions for mesh systems.

You're question makes no sense. Like I said, a Gateway is a modem and router in one box. So no, you cant make a standard router in to a gateway. In order to connect to a cable network like Comcast you need a Docsis cable modem. Which the Comcast box has in it. If you want to connect a router to the Comcast box you need to put their gateway in to bridge mode, making it a modem, that means that the Comcast gateway will no longer act as a router and will no longer provide WiFi, it will essentially be just a plain Jane cable modem. Or you do what I did and buy your own cable modem and buy your own router and dont pay the rental fee you are paying to Comcast for their gateway. Keep in mind Comcast's solution for mesh likely will be a monthly charge. Nothing is free with these bastards.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I'm assuming you have an all in one cable modem/router with WiFi and a switch. If this is the case just buy a wireless access point. Run an Ethernet cable from the built in switch to your access point and your done. I prefer ubiquiti access points. Many routers with built in access points can also be configured to be in access point mode.
