The wiring is the same between all SATA versions. The cable doesn't matter.

Hi, 

 

Is there a difference between using a SATA 1 cable VS a SATA 3 cable. I'm about to buy a WD Red hard drive, and I have an old SATA cable would they be compatable? Would I be loosing a lot of performace?

No, the cables have all been the same.

 

I think maaaaybe Sata 3 required a locking connector.
