980 PRO dead after only 40 tb of reads?

ImVictor

Hi Guys!

Today I woke up with my windows BSOD with registry error and being unable to repair itself. Looked like my SSD was in read only mode so I whipped up a Hirensboot cd live and saw this in CrystalDiskInfo

Any hope for the drive?

Seems like the drive has failed - probably not due to wear, but a hardware defect. The 980 Pro 2TB has a 1200 TBW rating, which you've filled around 3% of. If there's any important data you'd like to save, I recommend copying that to a known good drive, and then filling out a warranty claim - the warranty on the drive is 5 years and the drive came out in September 2020, meaning if you bought it on launch day you've used a little under 2 years of the warranty time.

Something went on that drive. Spares are used up, and loads of errors. Looks like a warranty job. I think it is on an older firmware too, not that I know what the changes are, but it is probably too late to update that now.
