Which Monitor Should I Add To My Setup?

While I do enjoy gaming from time to time (and when I game I like to treat myself), I mostly use my PC for writing books that require a lot of research and comparisons. I also play DnD as both a player and a GM. My group uses a lot of software to keep everything kosher.

 

The thing is, I am finding that sometimes I don’t have quite enough monitor real estate. So I want to add a third monitor. Its going to go above my two LG 27GL83A-Bs. I will not be using the top monitor for gaming at all. It will be used for everything else though, so it does not need to have all the Hz (though I think a minimum of 60 would be something I am looking for).

 

My current setup has the following:

 

Ryzen 5 5600X

32 GB of DDR4 Crucial RAM @ 3600 MT/s with CL 16

Two gen 3 NVMe 1 TB drives (no I don’t need faster, newer NVMe drives, I am happy with what I got)

Asus Tuf RTX 3070

O11 Air Mini

An EVGA 750 Watt Gold + PSU (I don’t recall the model off the top of my head)

Windows 10 Home is my main OS, but I also have Arch Linux for reasons

 

Also, I will be using this PC for work in a week. Having three monitors for it would be nice or maybe two while watching cool movies on the third.

 

First I am getting this because I don’t want to, nor do I have the skillset to drill a hole into my desk.

Currently I am looking at three options for monitors. The most expensive one is getting a third LG 27GL83A-B, granted at the time of writing they are going cheap compared to what they sometimes go for.

Second option would be a MSI Optix MAG301RF:

While it may be only 1080p, I do like the idea that it is an ultra wide and cheaper than the LG.

 

Third option is an LG 29WK50S-P.

I can get one new on eBay for about $200. Its the cheapest option but I am not sure. Not because it is on eBay, just, eh, I guess. Also it is ultra wide as well, which I like as mention.

 

I am also open to other suggestions, but I am very contentious about how much I spend. Nothing over $300, the cheaper the better (within reason of course). Also it needs to have IPS.

Since your current monitor is 1440p, it is wise go for 1440p, if you go 1080p then you will notice an annoying windows jump when you move around your apps within this 3 monitor.

 

If you want everything look pretty, a 49" Super Ultrawide will make it perfect fit on top or below your current 2x 27" Wide monitor as 49" Super Ultrawide is equal to 2 units of 27" Wide monitor. But Super Ultrawide will be far beyond your current budget.

 

Another suggestion get a 34" Ultrawide monitor put on top your current 2 monitors, also you need to top up more for Ultrawide as well.

 

Last suggestion just buy the same model 27" monitor put beside your current 2 monitors. In this setup you also can build up Eyefinity / Surround if you want to.

Thank you for the suggestions. However, the monitor stand I am getting is only rated up to 30 inches/ 22 lb per arm (I think). Also, while I would love to have all three monitors side by side, my area is too narrow to allow this (its in an alcove in a studio, so the area is flanked by three walls). Its enough room for two 27 inch monitors, but not a whole lot more.

In this case, I think at least get same resolution and same height monitor. Your current is 27", so they is option for 27", 34" and 49" in 1440p.

I never like anything from HP.  My preferable brand are Samsung, LG, Asus and Gigabyte.
