Wd black vs blue

Is there really a big difference between this two hdd? I need one of this two foy my gaming rig i already have a ssd from samsung

Black = performance blue = everyday storage/use

Yes there is a big difference, but if you have ssd already there is no reason to go for black.

If you're planning to load games on it, then go for the black. If it's just storage for random movies, music, downloads etc. then go for the blue.

honestly it doesn't give you too much. If you got an SSD already you should focus on energy and reliability rather than performance and reliability. both blue and black give you a good amount of quality. If you use your device as a pure data HDD a NAS HDD would even be a possibility since it's got stuff like error correction in it which consumer devices usually don't have and it's made for 1. running 24/7, got spin down and variable RPMs that adjust to your usage so it's ECO. It's rathera question of what are you going to use it for.  Big SSD + Data HDD with some smaller games or video files to edit = Blue, Small SSD + performance orientated HDD = Black, Big SSD + pure data storage and or used for backups = Red. I wouldn't go for Greens though since they tend to fail more due to the ECO settings. That might be subjective but i used them as NAS HDDs when there weren't Reds and i lost 3 out of 8 already. That's a bad sign for me. Scorpion or Caviar shouldn't be an option.

Linus talked about them really briefly in his surveillance thingy video. I think they're pretty much brand new to market.

Purples are made for a steady recording. Just surveillance based or possibly for devices like TV recorders. They are made for writing stuff constantly on the disk, got bad IOPS but are energy efficient and fail rarely. Not a good device to run it on Desktops/NAS/Servers.
